Part 7-Truck Drive
They were all set to leave, and they only had a little while before they left. Henry went to go speak with June, alone. He looked at his wife.
"If you don't want me to go then just say the word, and I'll stay." He said, half-wishing she would.
"It will only be for a few days, I will be fine here without you. If the police ask, I will tell them you went to a meeting for a building contract, and are experiencing some difficulty there. You can call me, but don't waste your phone battery." Henry chuckled slightly.
"Okay, I'll go say goodbye to the kids." He gave her a kiss, then went to get his children. He picked up Emmie and held her close. She smiled a little bit up at her father. He waved his fingers in front of her tiny face. She giggled. Then he handed her back to June. Roman was harder.
"But, I will miss you, Daddy." He said in protest.
"I will miss you too, but I need you to do me a big favor while I'm away." The boy nodded, eager. "I need you to help your mother with whatever you can and behave. When I come back I want to hear you were good, alright?"
"Okay, Daddy." His son gave him a hug, and Henry picked him up and spun him around in a circle, Roman shouted with delight. But, eventually, Henry stood up and left in the truck.
Kaida was next to him, and Greyson was in the back. Henry could see what he was doing with the mirror. Kaida was asked questions, curious about new technology.
"What does this thing do?" Kaida pointed.
"That's a radio, it plays music. Here." He put on an 80's station. No one else in his family liked 80's but he enjoyed it. Kaida stared at it carefully, inspecting it.
"But how does it work? Where are the musicians?"
"I don't know where the musicians are. The music is a recording. The recording is sent out on radio waves, and is picked up at a certain frequency."
"Sorry I asked, I have no idea what you just said."
"Let's just say a lot of new developments have happened since you were last here. Speaking of which, tell me more about your homeland."
"Atonisnasia is, was, a place full of magic. It was divided up according to different species' needs. There were volcanos for the fire creatures, mountains for the dragons and giants, there were Plains, rivers, lakes, tundra's tropics, forests, and in the center was an island that had a castle and city. The castle, Magicstone, is where all the major political decions were made. It was able to house all sorts of magical creatures. The village surrounding it was very nice, as there were a lot of nobles and diplomats who came and went. There were all sorts of gardens, and, if you knew the right person you could take long boatrides around the island." Henry Glanced at her.
"Did you go there a lot?"
"Well, I lived there. You see, my species, dragon trainers, are very rare. We are a genetic anomaly. No one is quite sure why we are this way. But dragon trainers can understand dragons. This is incredibly important as only a few speices can. Any dragon trainers that are found are brought to Magicstone and trained. There were 2 other dragon trainers that were within a few years of me, plus 7 older ones."
"So they take you from your parents?" asked Henry agast. If anyone tried to take his kids from him, no matter how rare, there would be some dead bodies.
"Not exactly. The parents are invited to come live in the city, where they can often visit their child, but not all the time. Or at least that's what my friend told me."
"What do you mean?" Henry said, hoping it wasn't the answer he thought it was.
"Well, I'm a little different than the others. You see, my parents are also dragon trainers. But they weren't actually my parents. I, um, they took blood from 2 of their dragon trainers, and fused it together, and I was made in a lab." Kaida bit her lip.
"I'm sorry, what?" Greyson said.
