Life after.
"Momma." Aura looked at Aria.
"Yes baby." She looked down at her daughter who was nearly her fathers spitting image.
"Can we go see TT E?" She smiled.
Aura had looked like the man she shared a night with over 3 years ago. She was light brown with almond shaped eyes and dimples in her smile, The one thing her daughter did have was her thick curly hair and honey brown eyes. After their unexpected night together Aria had never got his name and after that night she never saw him again. All she could remember was that they called him Nawf and she knew she wasn't going to bother looking for a man she didn't know anything about but his street name.
For her it was night she wanted to put behind her. It was just as much as she planned for her life to be one way things turned out another. Aria continued to make adjustments and still graduated law school in the amount of time as an average student even with being a single mother. When she started school she had moved out of state. Now she was moving back home and moved 5 minutes away from her best friend Eryka who now was an upcoming designer.
"Yes baby. As soon as the movers bring everything in we are goin to stay at her house and do a sleep over." She said as they pulled up to their new home.
It was a two story house with 4 bedrooms. Aria didn't want a big home but also figured if it was going to be her and Aura for the rest of their lives she wanted them to live comfortably. Or at least that's what she told herself. The main reason for coming back was because not only was it home but she had just landed a job at a popular law firm and all things were rough for a bit Aria was sure all her hard work was paying off.
"Momma that's goin to be sooo fun. I love TT E sooo much." Aura said.
"And she loves you just as much." Aria said laughing at her.
They got out the car and headed into the house. The movers arrived shortly after and took about an hour and half to unload everything. After Aria grabbed a few important things and their overnight bags she headed to Eryka's place.
"I'm hungry." Aura said as they road to Eryka's.
"TT has already cooked for us. She made your favorite." Aria said.
"Pasta!!" She raised her arms.
"Yes baby." She laughed.
They pulled up to Eryka's condo.
"Babes!!" Eryka stood out side.
Aria got Aura pulled out of her seat as she ran over to her god mother.
"TT!" She yelled running into her arms.
Eryka picked her up and kissed her cheeks making her giggle.
"Hey E." Aria hugged her best friend.
"I missed yawl so much." Eryka said as she let go.
"We literally saw you two weeks ago." Aria laughed.
"So I cant miss yawl?" She laughed.
"Girl, we are hungry." Aria said.
"Yes TT. Momma said you made pasta." Aura smiled still in her arms.
"Yup jus for you cause your my most favorite person." Eryka poked her nose.
The women made their way inside as Aria grabbed their bags.
--------------------------------------
Later that night Aria and Eryka sat in her dining room drinking wine.
"I'm so glad you came back." Eryka told her.
"I'm glad to be back. I missed being home to be honest." She told her.
"Still not talkin to your parents?" Eryka asked.
"Nope. They made it clear that I was a dumbass who was set on being a single mom. I mean its true but I just dont know." Aria said.
"Girl their your parents. I get you both but at least let them meet her." She smiled.
She knew Aria wanted to reach out to her parents as much as she put on a tough act.
"I know it takes a village." Aria said.
"And you still haven't tried to find her dad?" Eryka asked bring up the elephant in the room.
"What am I goin to go back to the club and ask everyone if they know "Nawf"?" She laughed.
"If you have to." Eryka shrugged.
"Look E its been years its to late." Aria said not wanting to have this conversation again.
"I get it. I know you miss your mom and dad. I'm sure she would like to know her. Just try cause its not fair to her." Eryka told her.
"I do but I also think to my parents when said some hateful shit. I get they were mad but I was grown. Instead of sayin they had my back they said fuck her and her baby not even calling to check on me. As for her dad. E lets be real his prolly some nigga in the hood with a billion baby mommas. I highly doubt ima see him again." She said.
"Aria, it's ya parents come on and wait its because he's from the hood?" Eryka asked.
"E-" Aria started.
"Bitch you can't do that. You liked the hood dick so much that you let him fuck raw." Eryka rolled her eyes.
"And a big ass mistake. I mean not Aura but that's why I'm not goin out wit your ass ever again." Aria said taking a sip of her glass.
"Obviously you need help finding him cause your definitely trippin." Eryka told her.
"E, relax." Aria said.
"For Aura?" Eryka said.
Aria rolled her eyes.
"Let us get moved in first." Aria told her.
"Uhm hmm." Eryka took a drink looking at her bestie.
"Look we will stop by my parents before I start work. I already thought about it. Everything else I will figure out from there." Aria told her.
"Fine. Ill accept that for right now." She looked at Aria.
She loved her best friend but she wanted aria to understand life was unexpected and ever changing. Eryka just saw her best friend adjusting her plans as she had always done. She knew she loved her daughter but when it came to planning nothing outside of Aura was considered.
-----------------------------
"Momma where are we goin?" Aura kicked her legs in the back seat of her suv.
"I've got some important people I want you to meet." Aria said.
She knew Eryka was right. Aura deserved to know her family. If they were going to love her or accept her how Aria wanted she decided she would protect her at all costs.
"Important?" Aura asked.
She was a smart little girl. At the age of three nearly four she could properly pronounce words and could form coherent sentences. She was definitely Aria's pride and joy.
"Yea it kinda means like special." She glanced at her in the back as she drove
"I'm excited." She smiled.
"Good." Aria grabbed her little foot as she reached into the back seat.
They pulled up to her old home and it was just as warm as she remembered.
It was a small traditional home with three rooms. There was an attached garage and there was still a swing hanging from the tree in their yard. Even though they moved into it during her starting high school it always gave her a forever home feel.
"So momma has something to tell you." Aria opened the back door and helped aura with her seat.
"What momma?" She looked at her with her big curious eyes.
"This is where I lived when I was a little bit younger. This my parents house. Where my mom and dad live. They are you grandma and grandpa." She told her picking her up and putting her down.
"Grandma? Grandpa?" She asked.
"Yup. I want you to meet them." She said as they stared to walk towards the house.
"Is my dad here too?" She asked.
"No baby. Just your Grand parents." Aria told her.
They made it to the porch and she fixed her hair as she looked at Aura.
"Am I going to meet him too?" She asked.
It was a question she had dreaded her asking. She knew it would come one day but just not today.
"We will. Just not today okay?" She kissed her cheek and she nodded.
Aria raised her hand to knock on the door.
After a few knocks her mother stood in front of her looking as beautiful as the last time the spoke. She had a shoulder length cut with dark brown hair. She stood about 5'6 with smooth brown skin just like her daughter.
She instantly grabbed her daughter and hugged her tightly.
"I'm so sorry Aria." She said holding her daughter.
"Mom I'm sorry too." She said letting her go.
Aura pulled onto her moms hand looking up at the two women.
Her father approached. He stood about 6'0 foot with salt and pepper beard and a now bald head. He still looked fit for his age and had the same dimples as her daughter.
"Mom this is Aura. Aura this my mom her name is Ann. She's your grandma." Aria told her daughter on her hip who smiled and waved.
"You can call me grandma Ann or granny." She smiled at the little girl in her daughters arms.
"Granny sounds fun." She smiled as her little hand grabbed her face.
"Granny is so pretty momma." She looked back at her mom.
Her father still stood not saying a word.
He had knew their last conversation wasn't the best but he never thought they would go years with out speaking. Of course he was disappointed in his daughter but he still loved her. He just expected her plan to be fail proof.
"Is that my Grannypa?" Aura asked them making her laugh.
She climbed down her mother's side.
"Grannypa! Mom my said your her dad. That means your like my dad too." She hugged his leg making him smile.
He picked her up looking over the beautiful little girl.
"What's your name precious?" He asked her as she smiled.
"My name is Aura but you can call me Grannybaby. That sounds nice right?" She looked at them all making them chuckle.
"She sure knows how to break the ice." Her father Robert smiled.
Aria nodded.
Her father pulled her in for a hug and held his daughter and grand daughter to his chest.
"Aria-" he started.
"I know daddy. It's okay. I'm sorry too." She hugged him back.
The pulled away and wiped their faces.
She had always been a daddy's girl and she knew the importance of a father a much as she tried to avoid her daughters question she knew she deserved an answer. She just needed to figure it out before she kept asking.
