It was a dark and stormy night. I arrived at the Yangon International Airport to visit my friend Max. A young man, maybe 25 years old, with a black mask asked where I was heading to. I showed him my hotel’s address, and he smiled at me, then told me to follow him. I followed him anyway to see what he was up to. We stopped in front of a black SUV. He said he would drive me to the hotel for 20,000 MMK (10USD). I was a bit suspicious of him since the hotel was 20 miles away from the airport, and 10 dollars seemed to be too cheap. However, I still agreed because I needed to arrive at the hotel in an hour to check in, so I didn’t have time to wait for the bus. I got into the car’s back seat and took a nap as the 10 hours flight tired me out. When I woke up, we hadn't arrived yet, which surprised me since it had been 2 hours since we left. I told the driver to stop the car, but he wouldn’t answer. I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I looked outside the window. There was no one around us, only trees. The man suddenly stopped the car. I begged him to let me go, but he refused to say anything. He left the car and took a metal bat out of the trunk. As he walked towards me, I grabbed my phone trying to call the police, but there was no signal. He opened the back seat’s door. He was outraged when he saw the phone, then he struck my head with the metal bat, and I lost consciousness. When I woke up again, I was at a police station. One of the police told me I was found in Chin Hills by a hiker. When I tried to stand up, I felt a sudden pain in my stomach. I lifted my shirt, and there was a 6 inch scar on my belly. The police and I were stunned by the site of the 6 inch scar. We hastened to the nearest hospital, and the doctor told me one of my kidneys had been removed. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock for 10 minutes., and then I instantly bought a plane ticket back to Taiwan. I apologized to Max for leaving and promised myself to never come to Mayanmar again. The scar reminded me of the horrifying memory every time I saw it. I will never be able to forget it.
