I whirled around, my drenched hair smacking the side of my face. "What?" I yelled over the thunder. I didn't want to hear what he had to say, but I did at the same time.

He took a few steps toward, until his face was close to mine. He took in a deep breath. "I love you," he whispered.

I looked into his brown eyes, which were genuine and apologetic.

I wanted to say, "I love you too," but my brain knew better so it shut my ears as I ran away in the rain.
