Où sont ils?
Their fists pounded on the wooden door. The folks on the other side of the front entrance took a deep breath.
They hoped this was not the end. Surely after all this time, they could not have been tracked down by none other than that technology dependent squad led by their alpha. Maybe if they tried tracking without some form of technology, their targets might be possibly found, at the least before sun down.
The night had been serene, now it had become quite a ruckus. Their voices boomed as if they were speaking using a megaphone.
They managed to loosen the bolts, and unchain the hooks placed haphazardly along one side of the door. A pile of: books, papers, leaves, unopened letters, plus many other miscellaneous items considered to be useful (they preferred not to part with anything they had in their home) greeted them by the main doorway. They stood, waiting to get a sense of their current hiding spot in the hodgepodge of antiques and relics lying on the mahogany floor.
Sounds of someone choking rang throughout the all-encompassing museum like home/place. One of the suited officials began to search all the rooms using his scanning device controlled using his metallic wireless connected in his smart-glasses. It provided him a visual of the whole house- every room, including the spots of the heat signatures exact geographic location with the latitude, and longitude provided, too.
The data was transferred, shared with the rest of the squad through the blue-cloud. Each of the squad members broke into their assigned unit/group and marched to extract the family members from their current hiding spot.
Their system pinged, a message appeared as a voice-message. The leader of the group shared it...the people they were looking for had left a short, but enigmatic note for the crew to decipher.
The team captain sighed in frustration. Now their superiors would have to be called in and they would not rest until this family was brought in.
As for the heat signatures, those had been generated at that exact point, engineered by one of the ones on the team's most wanted list. The team's alpha shook their head.
Where in the world, or time could these folks be? From what they had read in the files about them- they could transport themselves to any point in history, pre-history, or an unknown era into the future.

Meanwhile, in another place, and time, a young lad whistles in front of a newly built house. He smiles at the beauty of his new home. This will be where he shall try to work on collecting precious materials, and goods for his family to inherit from this generation to the next. It was time for him to put down roots, & also start a business in this part/side of town.
As he left home later in the evening, someone had been keeping a close watch on him. Once he was not home, they had quickly walked onto the steps leading to his place.
The stranger placed a device from his pocket onto the side of the door, and it began to hum like a humming bird. Soon, the front door clicked, and a smiling face appeared behind the front entrance, and remarked to the engineer, "You look like you could use a drink!"
"I need something much stronger than that, Theodora. Do you mind whipping something up for me?"
"Not at all. Come on in. Please, make yourself right at home. When my dearest checks in here from work you'll need to let him know more about your work, and research. I am sure he will be delighted to hear what you've been up to."
The engineer looked as if he was about to collapse, "You have no clue- I made sure that the ones trying to trace you are led on a wild goose chase. Enough with the interrogation, I need to lie down before I pass out right here, and then your neighbors will end up calling Scotland Yard about seeing the young lady across the street pulling a dead body into her home while her husband was at work."
She scoffed. "Oh, fine. I already prepared a strong drink for you. It is in the kitchen. Do not forget to respect your elders, baby brother." She brushed her hand over the top of his head, he chuckled, "Stop it before the ladies think I came here to seek employment from you, and much worse as your servant."
"If they try to make fun of you...I will give them a piece of my mind." Theodora raised her hands forming them into fists, moved them back, then forth, and ducked her head as if she was in a boxing ring. She bounced, shuffled her feet quick.
Her brother laughed, and then groaned. "Enough. Get back into the house. The neighbors are starting to stare from their sitting rooms. I spotted one who just ended up shifting their curtains back when I ended up meeting their eyes."
Behind them, sounds of honks rose in the air from the hustle and bustle from the street/road- signaling the moment of rush hour.
Later as the engineer drifted off to dreamland, the lady of the house donned her crimson robe. She placed her cauldron on the top of the stove, and began to chant:
*Blut meiner Schwestern
Zu dieser Stunde
Ich, Theodora Dinde
Rufe dich an
Pass auf sie alle auf
Der Typ, mein kleiner Bruder
Vor allem – mein Liebster
Behalten Sie Ihre Augen
Immer über ihnen
She tossed a raven's feather that changed colour- from a dark tone, to silver- and went to sprinkle in a dash of soot from the top of the chimney that she had swept using her witch's broom. A few locks of her brother's hair went in, right after placing her beloved's first. For her final touch, she poured in a blend of: sheep intestines, goats teeth, and elephant brains.

*Blood of my sisters
At this hour
I, Theodora Dinde
Cry out to you
Watch over them all
The tyke, my little bro
Most of all- my dearest
Keep your eyes
Over them at all times
