Drowning in Resentment
Knock. Knock. Her hazel eyes screwed shut before reluctantly, ripping the thumb sized speakers from her gauged ears, and her attention turned to the door. ''come in'' she uttered, her pail hands shaking with anxiety, as she waited for his entry. Without hesitation the older man rambled in, followed by the thick stench of cigarette smoke.
''Dinner'' he spoke firmly. The daughter straightened her posture through gritted teeth as she witnessed him take another long drag before immersing it in the annealed glass that lay on her desk. At least this time, it hadn't been her wrists.
''I-I'll be down in just a moment.'' her father gave a simple nod and walked out. It wasn't until the door was closed and Clara was sure no one would hear did she collapse to her knees in tears.
It felt as though hours had passed before the young teen finally opened her eyes; only to see that the cream painted room she had once grown up in was now an open beryl sea in which she was submerged. Panicked, she made an attempt to jolt towards the surface, but her attempt was faulty. Confusion struck as she peered down at the iron chains connecting her to the sea's floor. The girl's eyes widened, as she grabbed hold of the rusted iron and heaved. It wasn't long before the chains irrevocably gave away, and she was free. She then allowed herself to kick off the ocean's sand coated flat and take in her surroundings. Various corals and reefs swayed with the current as schools of fish bored through; thus causing her astonishment to grow. Though, it all ended to soon, when she felt a blow to the head.
''What are you doing!'' an all too familiar voice scalded and her body was quick to react as she sprung like a rocket, only to see her father eyeing her with eyes that could easily be mistaken for the devil's.
''nothing'' she retorted dolefully. She quickly fixed her gaze to the floor and saw the floor covered in broken glass drowned in a red liquid. Her hand lurched to the side of her head where the pain was, the same red liquid filtering down.
