Lullabies and Nightmares - A Lyrical Poem
When I couldn’t sleep,
You were the one to sing me a lullaby.
When my dreams were turned into nightmares
You told me a story about a little girl
Who could save the world
With the touch of her hand.
Well that little girl has grown up
To be someone you could never believe.
She is broken and lost inside
But you could never believe that.
She has this truth inside of her
And she smiles through all of the pain.
She knows you’ve lied right to her
She knows you’ve walked through the rain.
Now I’m 17,
I try to sing myself to sleep
Since I know you won’t be back
To turn my nightmares to dreams.
The worst one was you walking
Out the door.
Never to be seen again.
Lost without a trace.
But you know
That girl?
She’s strong.
She’s humble.
She’s hardworking.
She’s me.
