I really love this mythical creature because its appearance really deviates from standard mythical creature fare and gets into more Lovecraftian monster-type aesthetic.

It represents humanity's fear of the unknown and the knowledge that there is always something so large and powerful that reminds us of our insignificant place in the universe.

When farmers would suffer poor harvests they would rationalize it with the appearance of this creature.
