to all of you invaders
You can take all the golds that all these lands could mine. Nickel, silver, oil - they will all be yours. You can take away all the ornaments that decorate our bodies and strip us of all our wealth.
But please, please don't rob us the joy of seeing the beauty of our world, indulging in it as we please. Don't deprive us of the freedom to wander our own terrains, sail our own seas, and fly in our own skies. Don't leave us bereft of the utmost liberty to love a person in our own place in our own time in our own way, to foster our own children and protect them from every harm, and to build our own homes in the safest place we could find.
We can dance as we like, sing as we like, and paint as we like. Don't ever skin us of these little things that make up our very souls.
Freedom, justice, love. You can't ever see them walking the streets but they abound all around here. And these are the greatest riches of our nations. If you so much at least impale them, then we'd all be just meat standing on two legs.
Our brothers have been slaves, our ancestors had been slaves. But they've all been freed; there are no more chains around their feet. If we would all be slaves again, deprived of the right to choose, then we'd rather be dead for the core of our humanity has been taken away.
We know we can't repel your forces; all our armaments may crumble in your wake, but look at us. In liberty, we can do good and we can do bad. But the rewards are upon us, the punishments are upon us. We write our own story - that is our independence.
We are already writing it now. Leave us to give it our own ending - be it happy or not.
