For a Friend
My secret?
Well, if I told you, it would no longer be a secret
Just know, that my secret is not my own,
But that of a friend
Shared in confidence,
And a promise never to reveal
What I now know.
The inner thoughts of another should not be given away,
With a promise never to tell,
Because now I, too, have a secret,
A secret that tears me up inside,
Whereas before I had none
At least...none worth mentioning.
