I ❤️ Community College
Like most people for a long time I did not know what what direction I should head in. Eight years ago, when I was down on my luck, I enrolled at a local community college. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
Eight years later I am pleased with the direction my life has gone. I am a community college teacher. I teach writing and literature. My classrooms are often filled with a diverse community. The challenges of teaching can fill volumes, but so can the good times. The moments when students tap into their potential and learn a lot about themselves.
I do not come to the world of teaching wearing rose-colored glasses. As much as I would love for all of my students to do well and pass the courses I teach, that is not always the case. Teaching is the most demanding job I have ever had. Teaching is also the most rewarding job I have ever had.
The fall semester starts so. The dreams are lofty. The expectations are high. I just hope I can be the teacher my students want me to be. I hope I can be the teacher my students need me to be.
