Dawn of darkness
Dawn was a girl, no older than seventeen when her father as diagnosed with stage four cancer. Her mother was distraught with fear and grief. Her little brother barely a clue of what was happening, being only on the verge of three. He only knew his mother was sad and that he should be sad to.
But that was alright. Dawn was positive her father would get the treatment he needed and this will all be just a rough patch. she had to be their rock in this storm. She was terrified she would lose her best friend. Her father but she kept a smile on saying "everything will be fine. You'll see."
But treatments turned to weeks. Weeks turned to months and months turned to years. The cancer was aggressive and the treatments were not helping. The cancer was only getting worse.
Until Finally her father decided he no longer wanted treatment. If he were to die, he wants to do so feeling more like himself. Not this shell of a man he once was.
Her mother cried and she tried to talk him out of it. "The treatment will help. You'll see." But he was stubborn and refused any treatment. Only taking morphine for the pain.
A week later he passed in his sleep with his family by his side. Her mother sobbed at his bedside but dawn had to take care of her baby brother. He shouldn't be around this.
Once in the hall he asked. "Why mommy crying?" Dawns blue eyes filled with tears as she spoke. "Well...daddy isn't coming back home." Her baby brother seemed disappointed. "Oh." He said, looking to the ground. She just held him and hid her tears. She was strong. She had to be.
Then the bills came. The hospital bills were bad but the funeral cost was the worst. The money being needed almost right away. Her mother got on food stamps to help out all the bills but even then it wasn't enough.
So Dawn got a job as a waitress at a diner down the road. It was within walking distance and she got lots of tips. Her mother, after the loss of her husband became depressed and unable to do much. Dawn was hopeful she would come out of it. That she just needed time.
But until that time the bills were on her.
She felt so angry at her mother. So annoyed. So incredibly helpless. She wanted to scream. She wanted to cry and sob and wail and grieve but she couldn't. She had to be strong. She stayed positive at home. Always trying to get her mother to smile or manage to go out to eat after a particularly good payday. But nothing seemed to work.
Until one day her mother started to do house work. Started taking care of her son and helping her daughter and looking for jobs. Dawn smiled her first real smile in a long time.
Then her mother even felt good enough to date. Dawn was thrilled. They both knew know one could replace what was lost but it was good for her to look and seek comfort and social activity.
Then one day she brought a man home. His name was David. He was fairly attractive and had a bad boy type of look but seemed amazing.
Still, something was off with him. Dawn could read people very well and this man didn't rub her the right away. In fact it was telling her to run away from him.
She she saw how he made her mother laugh and excused her feelings. Maybe it was because he was new. Maybe it was because subconsciously he was replacing her father. But she ignored all that and let her mother be happy.
David was there more and more often. And slowly his true colors shown. He became more controlling. Telling her baby brother he can only play with certain toys and telling Dawn what to wear but he was the worst with her mother. He told her who she could and couldn't see. What she could wear. What she should watch.
And if she wouldn't listen she'd be backhanded for it. Dawn tried to stop him but he was so much bigger than her. So much stronger and he shoved her to the ground, kicking her several times before her mother would cry out "stop hurting her!" And her poor baby brother would cry in the corner, terrified and helpless.
Her mother started fighting back more. And he got worse. She couldn't sleep. the noise and the sound of broken glass filled the air. Wails of pain following. She would try to cover her ears but it echoed. Finally she went to her brothers room and saw he was awake and crying in his crib. She picked him up, holding him and rocking him and trying to comfort him the best she could over the sound of terror.
It went on like that for weeks until one night he was though playing games. He had a gun and had a little too much to drink and was so done with this family. Her mother instructed Dawn to take her brother and leave. Call the police but please don't let him see you.
She took her brother and cell phone and very carefully climbed down the roof with her baby brother on her back.
Once on the ground safely she heard a gun shot and a pained scream. David's cursing and screaming followed. Dawn ran and hid behind the alley, calling the police.
But David was gone by the time police arrived. EMTs took her mother out of the house on a stretcher and Dawn was filled with worry and fear. She couldn't lose another parent. She couldn't handle all of these bills and responsibility alone.
Her and her brother were looked over and were overall alright, just shaken up.
Then at the hospital the doctor pulled her aside after waiting three hours for any kind of answer. "I'm afraid your mother will never walk again. " the doctor told her.
David shot her mother in the lower back, severing the spinal cord in half.
Dawn wasn't sure what to think.
Dawn wanted answers. She wanted justice. She told the cops who it was that did this.
Three days later he managed to slip though the justice system on a technicality.
Dawn wanted revenge. She wanted to feel David's blood on her hands. She wanted to play with his insides and make him watch as he begs for mercy.
But murder is against the law, no matter how Nobel your intentions.
So she bottles it up. She tucked away her vengeance and hatred of David and the justice system. Along with her grief and sadness and anger and fear. She bottled it all up and hid it with a smile.
She almost forgot about them months down the road. But it was there. Waiting and burning like a volcano.
Until one day while at work she is visited by three shadowy figures. She dropped her tray of coffee, being startled by them. Suddenly everything was darker around her. Not pitch black but almost.
"Who....who are you? What's happening?" She spoke up quietly. Terrified that death has come for her. They spoke. "We are guardian angels. We have been watching you and many others like you. " she swallowed the lump in her throat. "Why? What do you want with me? You don't look like guardian angels. You look like demons." "True. We do not appear angelic for we have fallen. We are the Guardian angels who can't sit back anymore while there human is being hurt. While their humans get injustice. We give them the power to fight back and take what is theirs. It is time for you to take your vengeance."
And suddenly a black force nearly made her fall over, shoving into her body, enveloping her in a dark mist. She felt power coursing though her. Her blood pumped faster, her muscles so much stronger.
When the mist cleared she wore a flowing dress of black and her hair of darkest night. The bottle of her mind was smashed and all the hatred and vengeance came out. She growled. "Take me to David Smith." "You can do so all on your own. Just think of the person who deserves of your hatred and you will appear there."
Dawn closed her eyes, thinking of David. The charming bad boy that was hiding a monster. Then she heard a girlish scream and opened her eyes. There was David, sprawled on a recliner, now attempting to run away from the darkness before him.
She didn't even feel herself walking. She was floating as he begged. "Please, please don't take me. I'm too young to die." "Oh I'm not death." He was shaking. "Your not?" She smirked. "No. I'm worse."
She attacked him. Biting his neck first. Relishing in the fear and blood in her mouth. He screamed and tried to fight back but this Time he was the weak one. The prey.
She pulled away to show bright red on pale skin with dark eyes never leaving his as her hand traveled lower. He panicked, trying to get away but her other hand pinned him to the wall by his bloody neck. Not quite strangling but enough to keep him from moving too much.
Until she grabbed his flaccid penis and ripped it from his body. He screamed in pain as the weak organ was ripped from him. She grinned. Yes. He was terrified. He was in agony. She stood up with the penis in hand. Showing it to him. "Poor thing didn't stand a chance." He sobbed, now laying on the ground, holding his area where his one is once was. "W-why are you doing this?" She brought a heeled shoe to his gut with a growl. "Why? What have you done to deserve this? Oh I think you know. " he shook his head and the sobbing subsided for now. He was going into shock. "Please...what did I do..." She bent down close to his face, digging her heel into his gut, feeling the squish of blood. He gasped in pain. She growled. "My mother will never walk again after what you did to her." Realization dawned on him. His eyes widened. He knew he wasn't getting out of this alive. "Oh you remember now? And you remember how you got out of it on a technicality. Your not getting out of it. Not this time." She moved her hand, making sure her hand was pointed before stabbing her hand into his gut wound. He screamed, only able to watch as she moved his insides around, looking for something in particular.
She grinned when she found it. Pulling out his spine though his stomach, letting him see the fragile thing for a moment before breaking it in half like it was bread.
He started gagging, unable to move his legs before she took his heart in her hand and crushed it. Leaving him dead and her bloody.
When the deed was done she calmed and thought of home. She appeared in her bedroom. She got a look of herself in the mirror and gasped. Swallowing back terror. Her hair was long and black and had sticky blood in some spots. Her hands were covered and her mouth glaring red. She willed herself to change back to herself. Not this demon.
She did but the blood was still there. She ran into the shower, cloths on, not caring about her cloths as she scrubbed her hands and face raw. The she heard a voice in her head.
Now you have the power.
You will never be weak again.
No loved one of yours will ever suffer again.
She started hyperventilating. "I don't want this . I don't want this." But It didn't change the fact she had demon like powers that she could bring out at a moments notice.
She had so many questions.
And no answers.
Maybe when she goes to sleep this will all just be a nightmare.
