The Cycle
It begins with an opened drawer,
A daring crowd or a pulsing dance floor.
It continues with "I'll quit after just one more",
The need a roar, a ceaseless pour.
One can see ravens saying "Nevermore,"
Elfin boats off of golden shores,
Ecstasy leaking from every pore.
Until it ends.
And it ends with a chill to the very core,
A prone, helpless thing on an empty floor.
