Our Flag

“Our flag”

 President Trump recently tweeted that NFL players should be punished, or anyone else that is acting in a disrespectful manner towards the flag. He feels that you should be punished for that act of disrespect. He says this is due to irreverence to the flag. Should people be punished for not correctly treating the flag? 

The first thing I would like to talk about is the rights of the American flag. The first amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” If Donald trump thinks that he can just make things up as he goes then he just needs to leave the presidency. So this means that people are free not to stand during the pledge or anything like that because the first amendment states you really don’t need to.

The second thing I would like to state is that president trump does not need to tweet everything that goes into his mind, that just make our country seem weak and not seem serious. I feel that we should show respect towards the flag and thank our country, but when we don’t show respect I don’t think that we should be punished for it. America is a country of freedom and we should not be punished for little things like that. 

The third thing is that there are so many bigger problems then Donald trump getting mad about people not completely respecting the flag.
