Destined for Greatness
Kaidence sighed to herself as she plopped down on the couch at her mothers house.
"How’s school going."
"Good, I guess." she sighed, kicking off her shoes.
"What do you mean, you guess."
She shrugged. "DeMarco been getting on my nerve."
"Aren’t you two broken up."
"Yes." she whined. "He transferred to my school. He’s switching all his classes to mine. It’s annoying."
"Sounds real stalker-ish honey. You need to alert someone about that."
"I told daddy, but he said I was over reacting."
"Of course his dumb ass said that." her head shook. "You aren’t over reacting. I’ll contact the school if you want me to."
"I’ll wait it out. He keeps asking me to talk to him and all that bullshit, maybe then he’ll leave me alone."
"Don’t talk to him by yourself Kaidence. I don’t trust his behind. You know that I never liked his ass."
"I know mama. I was just stopping by for a minute though. I'm meeting SaKoiyah at Ihop in about thirty minutes."
"Well since you're here, let me get your thoughts on this new agency I want to open up."
Kaidence listened as her mother ran down her new idea for a modelling agency. Iris Leilana Monroe was a retired supermodel with the most recognizable and in high demand faces ever. Starting her career at just fourteen years old and retiring at forty left a lot of people stunned and heartbroken.
Iris wanted to do more and opening an agency to help young girls and young boys who wanted to become what she was able to at a young age, was what she wanted.
"Sounds like a win win situation to me ma. I can't wait to be apart of it and help out anyway that I can."
"Thank you honey. I can't wait either."
-
"Maybe we shouldn't have had that big breakfast. I can barely bend."
Kai laughed at her best friend. "I told you to keep it light miss head cheerleader."
On cue SaKoiyah waved her off. "Those pancakes and waffles slapped Snook."
She agreed stepping of the treadmill. "I'm out of ice so I'll go get us a cup."
"Need me to come with you."
"I'm good Snook. It won't take long."
"No more than ten minutes, then I'm coming with the gang."
Kai cackled while nodding. It really wasn't gonna take long. The ice machine was down the hall. She thought to herself.
Walking at her own pace, Kai skimmed through her instagram page seeing that DeMarco was still uploading pictures of the two on his page. It made her sick, especially when the two had been broken up for five months now.
"Watch were you going ma."
Looking up she stopped walking immediately. "I'm so sorry."
"Naw you good. I just didn't want you to crash into me, ya know. I see you busy on ya phone."
"Sorry." she apologized again. "How's your foot?" she recognized him from Marcello's office a few days ago.
"Good, thank you." he glanced down at it. "Nothing too bad, just a sprain."
Kai nodded. "I know Mr. Christian was relieved."
"Yeah." he chuckled. "Speaking of, how do you know my Dad?"
"He knows mine. I would always see him while I was growing up, at the house."
"Really, who's your Dad."
"Kaiden Peyton."
His eye brows furrowed. "Damn, your father the coach for the L.A. Clippers."
"Yes."
"That's dope. I love the Lakers but the Clippers are cool too."
"Is that where you're hoping to get drafted to. The Lakers."
"Most definitely. My older brother got drafted last year at number two."
"Two brothers on one team, that's history. I hope it happens for you."
Before he could respond, Kai heard a shrieking noise from behind her.
"It's been fifteen minutes Snook, what I tell you."
"Has it really."
"..No, but it felt like it."
"Sorry Snook." Kai chuckled seeing Corey as well.
"Aye bro." she heard from the opposite direction.
"Don, yo ass be loud as hell for no reason."
"Man shut up, Dad looking for you."
"Why."
"Brix in town."
"Sis." Kai snapped out of the boys' conversation. "You good."
"Yeah Corey. I was just getting some ice." she held up two cups.
"Well could you come on then. You know we have practice later."
SaKoiyah looped her arm with her best friend and pulled her along.
"Wait hold up."
Looking back she held her laugh as the boy tried to catch up with her on his one crutch.
"You need to be sitting down so that ankle can heal."
"I'll be good." he let out a low chuckle. "I didn't get your name."
"Kaidence, Kaidence Monroe." she had her mother last name.
He smiled, showcasing his clear blue braces. "Lennox Christian, nice to meet you Kaidence."
"You too." the two retracted hands.
"It's nice for me to meet you too Kaidence, I'm Adonis, the number one baller out of us baller bros."
Kai let out a laugh that made Lennox notice that she had dimples.
"It's nice to meet you too Adonis-."
"Kaidence, we're gonna be late.."
Glancing back she waved goodbye to the two brothers as SaKoiyah made sure to get them to practice on time.
-
Two days later..
I let out a sigh as I continued down this hall. I was so damn tired of having to walk with this crutch. It made everything slow.
"What's up Lennox."
I spoke back, seeing a chair in my eye line, I hurried and sat down. I was trying my hardest to finish my math assignments. I had about seven pages to finish by the end of the week.
It was my fault really, I kept letting my shit pile up because I’ve been so caught up in practice.
I slammed down my pen and looked for my whiteout. This dumb ass professor said pens only in his class, were as in my English professor said that she didn't give a damn if it was crayon, as long as it got done.
Hearing footsteps I glanced towards the end of the hall. Coach daughter rounded the corner quickly. I eyed her as she stepped in front of the nurses door and hunched over holding her stomach.
Keys sounded out catching both of our attention, it was the guard, Mrs. Henderson, most likely doing a hall sweep. I turned my attention back to Kaidence who never went in the Nurses office.
She walked out from near the door still holding her midsection.
"Monroe, where's your pass."
"Mrs. Henderson, I just came from the nurses office.."
"Why, whats wrong." she asked genuinely.
"I don't know." she hissed. "I strongly think it's cramps. Nurse Webster trying to send me home, but I told him that I 'd be able to thug it out for the remainder of the day."
My eyes widened a bit. Someone give this girl an Oscar.
"Well alright then. Go ahead and go to class."
"Yes ma'am."
Mrs. Henderson spoke to me before she continued down the hall. I let out a laugh.
Being crippled gets me special treatment.
Kaidence stood up straight walking over to me. "Don't laugh, I just told a lie."
"That was a good one though. What you lie for anyways."
Sighing she sat down next to me. "I didn't want to go to my Communications class."
"Why not." I asked, throwing down my math work.
"My dumb ass ex boyfriend signed up for it."
"What's wrong with that."
She shot me a look. "This is the third one."
"Oh he a stalker, huh?"
"Right, ohmygosh. It’s so creepy."
"He must still be feeling you if he changed his classes to yours."
"Oh please." she waved me off. "It’s been five months. He needs to get over it."
I watched as she picked up my math papers frowning. My mouth dropped as she went through them without hesitation. It was only three pages I had pull out.
"Yo, you didn’t have to do that."
"It’s no big deal. Math is a pretty easy subject for me."
I laughed out. "Not to me."
"Well, if you need help sometimes lemme know."
"I most definitely will."
