KMS
I‘ve heard so many students walk past complaining. “I want to kill myself,” they moan. And I know it’s not appropriate.
But maybe they just want a slice of death: the release from responsibility, the distance from the problems of life, the beauty of nonexistence. Just for a short while.
And they don’t understand that some of the people around them have considered the release forever. The girl tossing her hair back, smiling at her friends while her parents have commuted to court everyday for the past week yelling at each other and their lawyers. The freshman scurrying to get to class on time because the juniors are waiting for their punching bag after the bell, but not before. The girl who is called too large, too much, her cheeks round and glowing but her wrists pale and inviting a splash of color.
We all want a little bit of death. When one of us succumbs to the desire completely, the earth loses a beautiful, perfect creature.
