Perseverance
Perseverance walks tall in the moonlit streets. Her long flowing hair cascades down past her shoulders and her soft face makes her easy to speak to. She wants to help, but doesn't know how. She is nervous now, and takes her still young hands to crack her fingers. Tonight she walks back from working, the inside of her mouth and her lip is bleeding from biting it. She wants to be forgiven for all the false hope she brought, she wants to forget all the pain she has caused. But she keeps walking, in the shadows of the night. Until the sun rises again to show her that everything is fine for another day.
Adoption Poem
We are adopted
Plucked from out family tree
Sewed into another,
Even put in a category
They said we weren't loved;
We got through it
Some of us learned about our families
Some had no family left to learn about
Some never wanted to know
Before it had been confirmed
We knew
We saw the differences between new family
Others noticed as well
But kept quiet.
Now, we have a long adventure
Into our future
One that some want to walk alone
We all have different stories
We all have different reasons
But we are strong
And we will never forget here we came from.
We are adopted.
Advice
If I could give advice to the next girl you entice with your kind words I'd tell her this...
1. Make sure you talk about everything no matter how small it seems at the time.
2. Make sure you pull the covers up over his shoulders both when you cuddle and again when you sleep.
3. Make sure you know not to build a city in him and become so comfortable so quickly; because he is the boy who can't make up his own mind.
4. Make sure you remember that forever with him is never promised, it is merely just another perfectly times phrase.
5. Make sure you watch out for that tongue of his because for ever sweet word you hear come out of his mouth he will chase it down with a glass of poison later.
6. Make sure you care for him but remember that you can love both him and yourself at the same time.
7. Make sure you have tough skin, because when everything is said and done.. If you don't he will take the very air that you breath while you watch your world go dark.
If forever were true
Forever is a lie,
Because if forever were true you would still be here with me,
I wouldn't be sitting here just wishing my grandma could watch me graduate,
If forever were true you'd get off that plane and give my cheek a quick squeeze like you did when I was a kid,
If forever were true I wouldn't be meeting his soon to be fiancé for the first time,
If forever were true I would know what to put on my cap rather than debating everyday if I should pay homage to you.
Dear God if forever were true why would you take her from me,
From my mother,
From my aunt,
From my sister,
From her husband.
God if forever were true why did you turn it into a lie...
My grandmother
You are my mother's person
And my grandfather's person
You are two strong daughters and two strong grand daughters
You are everlasting friendships and true love
You are the first time I learned how to ride a bike, after I got mad at my sister for learning first and ran over her toe
You are scraped knees
You are the ready setty go park
You are painting on the patio and portraits
You are kindness and love
You are Christmas cookie recipes and anniversary parties
You are beautiful flowers and clean sheets
You are perfectly done nails and hair with hints of golden honey
You are pop pop singing throughout the house
You are lovely white roses and the irritated look I give crows
You are hospitality and pride
You are put together outfits and light pink lipstick
You are "eat everything on your plate and then you can have all the ice cream you want"
You are fighting the unbeatable fight
You are the idea that everyone is deserving of love, while also being able to recognize when to be careful
You are rope swings and monkey bars
You are honesty and hope
You are someone we are thankful for on thanksgiving and someone we miss on Christmas
You are my favorite grandmother
You are museums
You are people watching and being content just doing nothing
You are part of an unwavering love that swept you off your feet when you were young
You are my mother's mother
But most of all, you are bunny; my grandmother
Oh and when my other grandparents end up meeting you up there, don't brag too much, only enough that you get to smile
