What if the world was really filled with a good and an evil? What if it was all a balancing act? Where one must balance the other out? But what would happen if one side was out doing the other. And the bad was conquering the good. And the blame lies upon only one person. And that person is me.
Prologue:
My favorite movie growing up was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I felt like it was the most incredible thing that a boy that was such a ground dog, who had nothing to look forward to in life always saw the positive in the world and in others, got a golden ticket through a stroke of luck. Through I guess some may say it was fate. Regardless of how it all happened he was able to fight against all odds and win the ultimate prize, a chocolate factory.
But this is not that kind of story. This is a story about a girl whose life has been covered by a set of gray clouds of anguish and shadows, since her parent died because of a drunk driver when she was only seven years old. She was forced to live with an aunt who dislikes her for just breathing. She has no good luck, no one to rely upon, and no one to love her. And so she never makes wishes on shooting stars, because really what is the point.
Chapter 2:
Its dark and I’m walking home alone again after work past midnight. Working at The Mystery Meal Shack is not what most teens would choose to do on the first Saturday of summer vacation in the very sunny state of Florida. But this is my life and it absolutely sucks. And that’s when I hear them. The foot steps behind me. I quicken my pace, but I can hear them do the same. Then I’m surrounded by two men, whom are unbelievably dressed in black suits in this part of town and in ninety eight degree weather. I try to turn around and head in the opposite direction, but I come to find three more suited men blocking my way. With my heart jumping out of my chest I try to say as convincingly as possible, “Excuse me someone’s waiting for me.” As I try to move past them, the one closet to my left grabs me painfully by the arm and replies, “Miss Clark we’ve been searching for you for a long time. Would you mind coming with us?” The statement was asked in question form, but the look in his glacier blue eyes told me it was a demand and not a suggestion.
I hear the screeching noise first and then I’m blinded by car headlights. A sports car stops in front of our less than happy gathering. An older man in a gray suit steps smoothly out of the car with two girls that are fashionably dressed and slightly older than me. Before anyone else can react we all hear the soft roar of a motorcycle engine. Then a boy jumps off the motorcycle and takes his off headphones, where I can hear Amber Smith playing in the background extremely loud. And that’s when I first see him. A boy in dark jeans, a navy blue t-shirt and a jean jacket with shoulder length black hair and striking forest green eyes. I think what made him stand out in an already highly strange situation was the fact that he walked calming in front of the suit wearing businessmen from hell and asked,” So guys the humidity this year is going to be brutal isn’t it?”
The men didn’t even glance in his direction and the taller one with blond hair replied, “This is none of your business Justin Bieber. Why don’t you go sign some autographs for your preteen fans.” The boy seemed extremely insulted and scoffed, “I like to think of myself as someone with more of an edge.” He crosses his arms and counters in a thoughtful tone, “I feel I could definitely pass as more of a member from 5 Seconds of Summer. What do you guys think?” The tall business had had enough of the boy and exploded to two of the men, “Jake and David take care of them. We don’t have any more time to waste and we need to take this remarkable young lady to C.” The older man in the gray suit who hadn’t said anything throughout the exchange calmly explained, “I’m sorry gentlemen, but that won’t be possible.” Before the businessmen could react, the girls pulled out some strange looking hand hold devices and trained it on them. Just as a blue neon light struck the group, the boy dragged me away from the middle of the chaos. The men hit the ground and started to twitch as if they had been tased, but their skin had a strange blue tint to it. The man in the gray suit requested to the boy, “Please take Miss Clark to The Cave, we don’t have much time.” And he and the girls stepped into the sports car and drove away as if this was an all normal everyday occurrence.
Before I could react, he took hold of my and pulled me towards his bike. I tugged my hand away and demanded, “There’s no way I’m getting on this thing until you tell me what is going on!” He glanced back towards the men spiraled on the ground and replied, “I don’t think we have time for that in our present situation, but if you come with me I can explain everything little love.” Realizing he was right and ignoring the “little love” I asked, “I at least want to know your name.” He looked at me as if I was the one insane and said, “Stryder Lewis. Why do you plan to report me?” Deciding to ignore the sarcasm and realizing the men were staring to stir, I hopped onto the bike and yelled, “Let’s go the creeps are walking up!” Before getting on the bike he handed me a spare helmet and said calmly, “Safety first.” It was my turn to look at him like he was the one that was insane, as the men stumbled their way up from the ground and he took his time brushing my curly hair away from my face and buckling it underneath my chin. He hopped onto the bike and I followed suit and the engine roared to life. As we sped away he called out in the wind, “You better hold on tight, because your life has just changed!” I didn’t have to argue that point, because as the hot humid air rushed past us and I was holding on as tight as I could to the stranger that saved my life, I knew he was right. And for the first time in my life I felt hope.

In This Moment We Are All Broken
Broken is used to describe many things
A broken body with no hope to mend
A broken heart torn by a lover
A once innocent child broken by the reality of this world
Trust given so easily only to broken in an instant
Even a precious gift given by a loved one can accidentally broken.
But in this moment we are all broken
By our elders who have lost their values
By those in charge who are meant to represent us
By people who only want to hear the sounds of the loudest person screaming
Drowning all other voices in their hate.
In this moment we are all broken
Broken in body and heart
In the innocence and trust we have all lost
In the gift that used to be our differences
That are now meant to separate us
And break us
In this moment we are all broken.
