Waiting
A man in miss matched clothing looked up at Rebekah. "Out of all the people I have met in America, you are my favorite."
Rebekah frowned. "Why is that?"
The man smiled and said in a heavy accent that Rebekah couldn't quite place, "You tell me exactly what you want. You don't beat the bush."
Rebekah held back a sigh. This man had talked to her for seven minutes now."The saying is 'beat around the bush,' and I'm just doing my job. Now, do you want the Calamari or the Fried Mozzarella?"
The Pair of Eyes
Taylor opened the door to her apartment. She looked through the door, and saw a pair of eyes lying on the floor. Just two eyes. Nothing attached. Her heart jumped to her throat as she looked closer. They were looking right at her, and they were light blue. Just like her brother's eyes.
The Deathcrawler
Everything came down to what Jason was about to do. If he failed, everyone would perish.
He sat across from the Deathcrawler, the biggest threat to the world. The Deathcrawler’s figure looked almost human, but not quite. It’s eyes were pure black, and it’s skin was wrinkled and grey. The Deathcrawler’s blood red teeth were as thin as needles, the top teeth visible when it’s mouth was shut.
The Deathcrawler’s robe waved from a phantom wind as it stared at Jason. “You really think you can defeat me, don’t you?”
It’s hoarse voice gave Jason chills and made him want to run as far away as possible. “No.” Jason replied. “I just want to see if I can change your mind about your bargain.”
The Deathcrawler nodded. “Ah. You think you can persuade me to leave your planet without anything in return. Correct?”
“Yes.” Jason answered.
“Well, I don’t see why that would be appropriate. Earth is ready to fall, just like Mars and Venus and every other planet in the universe did when their time came. You can’t possibly know the importance of the falling of Earth is to the Immortal Plan.”
Jason shook his head. “I can’t know because it isn’t important. What’s important is my family, my friends, and everyone on Earth.”
The Deathcrawler slammed it’s fist on the table, causing Jason to flinch. “The Immortal Plan will go on, no matter what.”
Jason grabbed his pistol from his belt as quietly as he could, setting it down on his lap. “Not unless you die.”
Jason lifted his gun and shot at the Deathcrawler’s face. The bullet bounced off it’s nose and landed on the table. The Deathcrawler smiled and vanished from the table.
And the world went quiet. Too quiet.
The Midnight Call
It was midnight when Carolyn’s phone rang, waking her up after only going to bed two hours ago. Darrell didn’t notice it. He didn’t notice much most days. He drank almost every night before going to bed. Carolyn didn’t understand how he could still drink. Ever since the crash, she hadn’t taken a sip of achohol. She didn’t want to lose another child. Darrell, on the other hand, drank even more than he did prior. He still blamed himself for killing Rachel on that horrible night fifteen years ago. They both blamed themselves.
She sat up in her bed and looked over at her phone, which was vibrating her nightstand. She sighed. The day had been so stressful she had forgot to turn her phone off before bed. She reached over and grabbed her phone. She turned on the screen and checked who was calling her. When she saw the name, she almost dropped her phone. One word was showing. One name. A name that shouldn’t have been able to call her. Rachel.
Shocked, she turned to Darrell and grabbed him. “Darrell! Wake up!”
He stirred a little, then shook his head. “What is it?”
“Come on. Get up!” She said, shaking his arm.
Darrell jerked his head up and glared at Carolyn. “What’s so important that’s happening in the middle of the night?”
Carolyn lifted her phone to his face. “Look.”
“What-” he started, then froze, staring at the screen.
She turned the phone back to her and answered, setting it to speaker mode. “Hello? Who is this?”
The line was silent for a moment. “Mom? Dad?”
