Missing
The night was void of any stars and the full moon’s light shone through the treetops onto a park. Past the park was a large forest with dense pine and oak trees. A scenic place for hiking and camping. Ridiculous for running. A child of day became painfully aware of this as she sprinted through the forest, hoping she would not trip and fall.
She panted as if she had been running for hours, her heavy breaths turned into mist in the cold autumn air. She was terrified. Her friend was dead, a knife slashed through her neck.
Help me, she had said, but there was nothing she could do. For it was the doing of the child of the night.
The blood covered her white sweater and jeans. She had to find Lydia, before the Night Child came. She quickened her pace, drops of blood falling from her hands, forming an eerie red trail.
After what seemed like forever, she saw Lydia leaning against a bare tree. She stared listlessly into the night sky. Upon hearing the crushing of dead, dried leaves, she looked in front. She put her hand on her hips and smiled.
“Kaitlyn, what happened? I’ve been waiting for you two. Where’s Ju-“
Lydia’s eyes widened. Kaitlyn smiled sadly, the moonlight shining on her pale face.
“Wait.. Why are you holding that knife? What-“
The glint in Kaitlyn’s eyes was filled with insanity.
The child of the night had come.
The path grew redder.
