The Stars Do Not Deserve You
If you go tonight, I hope he brings you back something greater than your suffering.
Because you deserved the world, but life gave you scraps.
And I've watched you crawl and fall for years now that even Sisyphys pitied your efforts.
You used to swear that one day you would soar and kiss the moon,
Then spend the rest of your days dancing amoungst the stars.
But your spirit has been broken, because every time you flew towards the moon,
You would be knocked back down to the cold and unforgiving earth.
Yours is the folly of Icarus, he has cursed you to this fate.
But you were not prideful like him.
You do not deserve to drown in the ocean of his mistake.
And I wish I could lasso you that damn moon myself.
It would be a trophy for each time you kept striving for exellence,
And life punished you for it, for trying to become something better than it defined you.
Many times I wished you'd stop fighting and falling - but not like this, never like this.
I know you'll return to earth once more, just as you were born to it, but I hope,
You are reborn into the stars to shine like you should have been destined to before.
I will curse them with every last breath when you go,
Because only when you give your life to them will their light dance for you.
And each time I see a night sky I will see you shining as you should have always.
I will smile and pity those stars, because they do not deserve you -
And you will outshine them all.
