ENHANCED - Snippet
They raced forward, Sam stumbling under Darkside’s weight. A shout came from behind them as the guards caught up. Thirty feet. Twenty. Ten.
Sam cried out as an explosion of pain blossomed from his left shoulder. He stumbled, another explosion of pain opening up through his stomach. He tripped, falling forward to the ground. Darkside landed a few feet ahead of him, the jolt seeming to be enough to shock him out of his daze. Another bullet flew over their heads. Sam touched his stomach, then lifted it to his eyes to see the red stain. He locked eyes with Darkside, feeling the blood already oozing out of his mouth.
“Run!” He yelled.
Darkside glanced at him, then towards the guards, and pushed himself off the ground, crossing the ten feet to the wall in ease. He ran straight through it like it was made of air, and Sam was struck once again by how powerful his ability, whatever it may be, was. There wasn’t an Enhanced like him. Were all the Enhanceds that lived their lives out in pods that powerful? If so, he wasn’t surprised the Control had locked them up. It did, however, make him wonder what exactly his contacts had wanted with him.
My Friday Morning
I've been away again.
Was in the ER Friday morning.
A new medication.
Chest pains
Went and called
911
Medics came,
Said you look good;
But go all the same.
After several tests
A decision was made.
Nothing wrong with your heart;
Probably a muscular or skeleton
Issue.
But they weren't sure,
Just like they weren't sure if it was a side effect of
The new medication.
The joys of two autoimmune
Diseases.
Funerals
I go to funerals in tall boots and trench-coats
Death by my side.
We walk down that aisle
Between mourners
And those select others.
Tears wet the ground
Where no trees will ever
Thrive or grow.
I go to funerals in tall boots and trench-coats
With nothing on my mind
I loved my life
So full of lies
Now it's time to
Lay down and die
Death grabs my hand
And whispers softly:
'Follow me.'
I go to funerals in tall boots and trench-coats
Death's associate is what I am
Helping others to leave
And those who are just
Passing by.
I go to funerals in tall boots and trench-coats.
