August Drabble Challenge: MURDER!
Tell me a story using good, solid prose in exactly 100 words. This month, tie it in to MURDER. Not necessarily the act itself, but that'll be fine, too; use your imagination. I want a super short story somehow related to doin' murder. No need to tag me, I'll read all the entries in September and select a winner.
The Mourning Woods
The forest was all-encompassing, seemingly swallowing the girl and her victim whole. To the girl's guilt-addled mind, the branches almost appeared as if they were reaching to the sky, begging for forgiveness to whatever god they worshipped. Unfortunately, she doubted their sins were as extreme.
"No," Daniella muttered to herself. "I-I can't be thinking like this. Cassandra brought it on herself."
Slowly lowering the dead body onto the ground, flashes of the murder swarmed her. The cruel words from Cassandra, Daniella's blubbering, Cassandra's laughter turning into horrified cries for help...
Daniella strengthened her resolve and tentatively picked up the shovel.
