The Mayfly
PROLOGUE
‘Mother of twins lives longer’, Liza had once read in a magazine, Reader’s digest, she suppose. Even if it’s true her alcohol consumption won’t let her.
She lit a cigarette, which she found from Mateo’s pant pocket.
“Now my wife’s a smoker too, is she?” Mateo stood behind Liza.
“I don’t care about the drinking, but smoking, I won’t allow it.”
“Then why don’t you quit it?” Liza found something about her husband that reminds her of her father, something good. Everything about her father seemed good to her, what could a 7 year old girl find wrong about her father?
“It’s getting late, please ….ugh” Mateo found his bag heavier than usual.
“Please bear Jacob in mind, will you?” his voice faded as he left.
Liza nodded absently,
Anyway he was an accident.
Where are the twins? , realized she left them with her mother. Their faces never once stopped bringing her the past trauma.
When her mother asks, only reason she has is Mateo, though he always considered them as his children.
It took her a little while to realize Mateo left, but it took her long enough to realize he’ll never come back.
