Moon And Chips
I took a slice of the moon and served it with chips
I plucked a strand of starlight, watched it dance upon your lips
I replaced la Gueca Solo with the orbit of your hips
And I paid with old fools gold for such exclusive membership
I took the cup of kings and let it gently overflow
I hung upon my cross, better view there, don't you know
I basked in freezing heat until the sunbeams turned to snow
I put my roots in water but they drowned, they didn't grow
I filled the gilded ark with halftruths and pairs of lies
I wore my demons mask; a snug fit, to my surprise
I threw time against a wall just to see how well it flies
And I took so long to do it, I began to realise
That if I serve the moon with chips all I'll ever get is gravel
And if I ever kissed those lips I would quite simply unravel
And as hours turn into days I think I will invent time travel
It'll cost the gold I lost, sold with the cold boom of the gavel
I could take la Gueca Solo, and make a sweet tango for two
I could take that cup of kings and fill it greedily with you
I could water roots with gasoline and watch as they burned blue
I would cut my soul in half to see its meaning running through
If only I could know how many times I'd burst my heart
On the points of beauty's star, or how impossible to part
If only moon and chips was on the menu, a la carte
And if only I'd have known, right from the very start...
