Lessons Learned
“I had lost sight of how many boys’ lips I had tasted, their kisses all a mixed blur of people I didn’t care about enough to remember.
They were stepping stones.
And maybe, in those moments that they were around, I did truly care about them. Perhaps I even loved one of them.
But you were the one that lit a fire inside me.
You were magnetic, effortlessly pulling me to you. I drowned myself in the comfort of your brown eyes that always seemed to be searching for a new adventure and made a home in your arms that you swore had never known love until you met me.
But you were young and reckless. You couldn’t understand the weight your broken promises had left me with because you were out restlessly searching for yourself in this world.
You were a child and you just weren’t ready for the depth of the love I had to give.
Because I did love you. God, did I love you
Stay With Me
“Stay with me? …just for awhile, please.” She whispered to the boy who lied beside her in a bed much too big for her alone.
“You know-” he started.
“I know it means nothing to you. I am just another girl on your list that you take such pride in…I know it’s not love. I’m not asking you to love me, but, darling, just keep me company for a moment. Remind me of a warmth that comes from the most innocent form of intimacy.”
He sighed, taking her into his arms, and allowing her body to remind him of the girl who he once held the same way, a girl who he actually loved before he shut himself off from feeling such an emotion.
“Are you thinking about him?” He asked her.
She softly let out a breath of air as she tangled her fingers with his.
“Just as much as you’re thinking about her.”
