The Other Holiday You Don’t Hear About
This is going to be an ongoing thing between now and September 30, 2021.
Nothing fancy, no poetry, no stories told, nothing expletive. Just as Jack Webb would say on Dragnet, “Just the facts.”
Each day, you will see a listed holiday. Some strange, some wird, some funny. All different though from the holidays we are most usd to.
So, lt us begin.
October 1st
World Vegetarian Day
International Coffee Day
Children’s Day
Cyprus Intgernational Day
Chuuk Constitution Day
National Day of the People’s Republic of China
Mid-Autumn Festival Day 2
Armed Forces Day
Independence Day
National Day
Mid-Autumn Festival
Elder’s Day
Teachers Day
Independence of Southern British Cameroons from UK
Investiture Ceremony of the Captains Regent 2
German Food Bank Day
Black History Month
National Hair Day
Fire Pup Day
National Homemade Cookies Day
Balloons Around the World Day
********
Now, I Googled three of these:
Fire Pup Day:
National Fire Pup Day on October 1st recognizes the canine firefighters that have long been members of fire departments across the country. While the Dalmation’s origin is unknown, their use in firehouses began during the 1700′s.
National Hair Day
There’s a day to express your love for your hair — National Hair Day on October 1. NuMe, a hair products company, created this day for people to celebrate hair styling tools and other hair products.
Since ancient times women have been obsessed with their hair. Cleopatra washed hers with donkey’s milk! Today, for many women, hair is high maintenance because how you wear your hair makes a statement about you. So, color your hair purple with polka dots, braid it, throw a weave in it or just wear your hair short and flirty. Today is a day to celebrate your personality as personified by your hair and to explore ways to keep it lustrous and healthy.
International Coffee Day
International Coffee Day is an unofficial holiday with a dual purpose: to celebrate one of the most popular beverages in the world and to raise awareness about sustainable coffee cultivation, as well as fair trade practices in the coffee industry. While some countries have their own holidays to celebrate this amazing beverage, this holiday is observed by most everyone on October 1st.
And for the record, not one of these is a celebration known for in the United States, sucj as Armed Forces Day which is held in South Korea, and Black History Month which is recognized in the United Kingdom.
The only three on this day that would be recognized by the United States are World Vegetarian Day, International Coffee Day, and Internation Day of Older Persons.

World Smile Day
*****
The only two holidays that would involve
The United States are World Smile Day
and International Day of Non-Violence.
But National Name Your Car Day, somehow
became our day.
*****
I looked these three up:
Phileas Fogg Wager Day:
The holiday celebrates key events in Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in Eighty Days. In the book, Phileas Fogg, the main character of the 1873 novel makes a wager of 20,000 pounds to circumnavigate the Earth in 80 days on October 2, 1872. This unofficial holiday celebrates the wager that set out one of the world's most famous adventure in motion.
National Produce Misting Day:
National Produce Misting Day on October 2nd recognizes
the innovation of keeping fruits and vegetables fresh. Misted fingertips
rest assured that produce remains crisp, plump, hydrated and nutrient-dense.
Given a choice between fresh and tired produce, we choose fresh every time.
Corrigan Corporation of America founded National Produce Misting Day in 2018 to share the fascinating history behind the inventive engineering that brings fresh produce to our local stores. They honor and celebrate Jack Corrigan, who is credited with establishing the first patents for automatic produce misting systems back in 1979 and his son Mike Corrigan, for having the vision to bring it to market.
As the owner of the Carrot Top produce market, Jack Corrigan
also had a civil engineering background. Out of necessity, he combined
his two interests and set to work. Corrigan’s inventions led to the development of innovative tools and a market-leading manufacturing company.
The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the first National Produce Misting Day in 2019 to be observed on October 2nd annually.
National Name Your Car Day:
National Name Your Car Day on October 2nd encourages a special
commitment to your wheels. It’s time to give your trusty
automobile what it really needs, a name.
Many of you most likely remember Herbie the Love Bug, Lightning McQueen from Cars, Kit from Knight Rider, General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and Bandit from Smokey and the Bandit. These are just some of the famous car names
that are known by millions of people.
Make a day of it. Take the old jalopy out for a spin, a nice wash, and
shine and then just maybe you will select a signature meant for one s
o reliable. After all, you spend all that time together and take such
good care of each other, isn’t it time to give those four wheels a name?

I looked up the following four holidays:
Morazán’s Day:
Francisco Morazán Day is a national holiday in Honduras. Honduras celebrates, on 3 October, the birth anniversary of Francisco Morazán, a popular Honduran leader who was born in the year 1792.
National Foundation Day:
This is a designated date on which celebrations mark the founding of a nation, state or a creation of a military unit. This day is for countries that came into existence without the necessity of gaining independence. Older countries that use some other event of special significance as their national day. This signals the use of a "class" of National Days, that are equally important in the foundation of the nation, and a "class" of less important official public holidays. This holiday can be symbolized by the date of becoming republic or a significant date for a patron saint or a ruler (birthday, accession, removal, etc.) as the starting point of the nation's history. Often the day is not called "Foundation Day" but serves and can be considered as one.
National Boyfriend Day:
National Boyfriend Day on October 3rd recognizes the sweetheart in your life. Like special days for family members, this day dedicates attention to the boyfriends in one’s life. There is no information as to how this started but the first Boyfriend Day took place in 2002.
And yes, there is an International Girlfriend Day, but you will have to wait until August to read about that and some other interesting facets that somewhat go along with that.
Card Making Day:
Celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October, the day first began in 2006 and was created by Paper Craft Magazine (home based in the UK) as a way to encourage crafters to get a head start on the holiday season.

Daylight Saving Time (Paraguay)
Sukkot II
Peace and Reconciliation Day
Wine Day (Day 2)
Independence Day (in Lesotho)
World Animal Day
National Vodka Day
National Taco Day
National Golf Lover’s Day
I checked out these four:
Peace and Reconciliation Day
The Day of Reconciliation is a public holiday in South Africa held annually on 16 December. The holiday came into effect in 1995 after the end of apartheid, with the intention of fostering reconciliation and national unity for the country.[1] The date was chosen because it was significant to both Afrikaner and African cultures. The government chose a meaningful date for both ethnic groups because they recognized the need for racial harmony. The celebration of the Day of Reconciliation can take the form of remembering past history, recognizing veteran's contributions, marching, and other festivities.
National Vodka Day
National Vodka Day has been mentioned by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and has also been noted on news websites such as CBS. The creation of National Vodka Day came about because of Nir Knaan and has been celebrated in the United States on October 4th since 2009.
National Taco Day
The word taco is the Mexican equivalent of the English word sandwich. The tortilla, which is made of corn or wheat, is wrapped or folded around a filling that is generally made of spiced proteins - beef, pork or fish.
For National Taco Day this October 4, consider the countless variations you can create using traditional meats or with seafood, chicken, beans, cheese and eggs. Yank out your garnishes – salsa, cilantro, avocado, tomatoes, onions and lettuce and you have a dish of great versatility and variety.
Last year Americans ate over 4.5 billion tacos! That’s 490,000 miles of tacos, which could take you to the moon and back.
I’m happy knowing I don’t have to wait a year to get a taco, otherwise I would be bent out of shape if Taco Tuesday ended!
World Animal Day
The first World Animal Day took place on March 24, 1925, in the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany. More than 5,000 people attended the first event. It was founded by writer and animal activist Heinrich Zimmermann, author of Mensch und Hund (Man and Dog). In 2019, 135,000 people attended World Animal Day as well as other organizations did across the globe.
Their mission of World Animal Day is "to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilizing it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

Chic Spy Day
********
To choose only three to look up wasn’t easy. There were
several I wanted to do.
Chic Spy Day
This day is to acknowledge that a well-dressed spy is always more successful in catching the bad guys than a scruffy one.
The unofficial holiday is a tribute to the elegant and stylish spies in popular culture and was created in 2015 by chicspy.com, a fashion website. It commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1962, when the chicest spy of all – James Bond – made his debut on the big screen in a movie called Dr. No. Starring Sean Connery as James Bond,. The film was based on a novel of the same name by Ian Fleming.
National Apple Betty Day
On October 5, fall ushers in National Apple Betty Day with a sweet aroma of apples baked in cinnamon and oats.
The story behind this classic dessert is somewhat nebulous. There was in fact a real "Betty" of African-American descent for which the dish is named. It is believed that "brown" wasn't referring to the dish, but to the cook herself, who may have been of mixed racial background. This Betty, last name unknown, first made an apple cinnamon pie somewhere in the late 1790’s.
Later, then known as Brown Betty (1890) – This recipe was part of the winning essay for the $500 American Public health Association Lomb prize on practical, Sanitary, and Economic Cooking Adapted to Persons of Moderate and Small Means, which became a book of the same title by Mrs. Mary Hinman Abel.
National Get Funky Day
Today we celebrate the best way to improve your day from getting funky to being nice.
Funk is a musical genre known for its rhythm and bass, but the word funk literally means “bad odor.” So why would anyone pick such a stinky name for such fun music? Because when musicians wanted their bandmates to really get groovy, they’d say “Put some stank on it!” Funk is the kind of music that can make even the biggest wallflowers get out on the dance floor. So when someone tells you to get funky, they’re not telling you to stop taking showers, they want you to have fun! On National Get Funky Day do something to make yourself happy: wear some cool clothes and definitely crank up some funky tunes by bands like Parliament Funkadelic. Get your groove on!
With that said—groove to this:

This time I decided to just check out two of these:
Dukla Pass Victims Day
The Slovaks annually observe a very important memorial day for their nation Dukla Pass Victims Day on October 6. Observation of this day is connected with the events during World War II, when the Soviet and Czechoslovakian troops managed to capture the Dukla Pass from Nazi Germany.
The Dukla Pass is a strategically significant mountain pass in the Outer Eastern Carpathians. The pass lays on the border between Poland and Slovakia and an ancient trade route Dukla-Svidnik passes through this territory. The pass was captured by Nazi Germany during World War II and the Soviet Army launched an attack on Dukla in September 1944.
During this time several major battles occurred on the territory of the pass. One of them was near the city of Dukla, that lasted for 10 days. The battle to capture this hill lasted from 10–20 September, and during that period the control of the hill changed more than 20 times.
National Golden Week Holiday
I’ve put this one off long enough, but, the People’s Republic of China, gave the name given to a semi-annual 7-day or 8-day national holiday, implemented in 2000.
Three or four (if Mid-Autumn Festival is near National Day) days of paid holiday are given, and the surrounding weekends are re-arranged so that workers in Chinese companies always have seven or eight continuous days of holiday. These national holidays were first started by the government for the PRC’s National Day in 1999 and are primarily intended to help expand the domestic tourism market and improve the national standard of living, as well as allowing people to make long-distance family visits. The Golden Weeks are consequently periods of greatly heightened travel activity.
Or better known as paid time off from work

Two I looked up and one I’ll just comment on.
World Cerebral Palsy Day
Cerebral Palsy is the most common childhood disability, yet around the globe, there’s a broad lack of knowledge of what it is and how it’s caused, even in the medical field.
In addition, many children and adults with cerebral palsy are at increased risk of abuse and neglect, and in some parts of the world, murder, as communities fail to offer people with CP love and quality of life.
Through World CP Day they build awareness of what CP is, how it’s caused, and how early detection and intervention is the key to improving outcomes for people with CP.
As World CP Day continues to grow in popularity, they will continue to show the world all the incredible things that people with cerebral palsy achieve when barriers are removed.
World CP Day is an opportunity for the whole world to come together to recognize and celebrate the 17 million people around the world living with cerebral palsy.
On 6 October every year, individuals, families, and organizations celebrate by sharing stories, hosting events, and wearing the color green.
They have celebrated in a number of ways since World CP Day began in 2012.
National LED Light Day
This marks the first year aka celebration of LED Light Day. At Bridgelux Lights, they wanted to find a fun way to celebrate all things LED. They are a company that is passionate about lighting and is working to build the best and highest-quality LED lighting.
Let us hope they pay their electric bill on time, or it’s lights out for them.
Lastly, about that coffee with a cop day …
Officer: You are under arrest
Person: Can I finish my coffee first?
I would say that would end that pleasantry.

National Fluffernutter Day
National Pierogi Day
American Touch Tag Day
**********
This time only two appeal to me to look up.
National Fluffernutter Day
A Fluffernutter is a yummy sandwich made with bread, peanut butter, and marshmallow fluff. It is now a classic American treat that is typically enjoyed in school cafeterias, college dorms, and local diners nationwide.
Marshmallow candy can be traced back to ancient Egypt when people first began to harvest the marshmallow plant (Althaea officinalis). During the 19th century, French pharmacists extracted the juice from marshmallow plants and heated it with egg whites and sugar, creating a marshmallow cream.
In 1917, Archibald Query of Somerville, Massachusetts created the special formula for the marshmallow fluff we know and love today. The city of Somerville celebrates with the famous "What the Fluff" festival every year!
Who knows, maybe we can start a trend on Prose when we don’t understand something … “What the fluff!”
American Touch Tag Day
Tag! You’re it!
American Touch Tag Day on October 8th celebrates the traditional childhood game and encourages kids of all ages to get out play! The game lends itself to long hours playing outside at recess, after school, and on weekends. The best way to celebrate is by getting out in the fresh air, running around, and tagging someone.
Dating back to ancient Rome, this game has been played worldwide with a variety of names and rules. Typically it involves a player running around, chasing other players, in an attempt to “tag” or touch them. Most forms of this game have no teams, scores, or equipment. Usually, the goal involves being the last player left untagged or being safe.

*****
Too many to think about, but chose three out of this mess:
World Post Day
This is the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union, which started in 1874 in Switzerland. The UPU was the start of the global communications revolution, introducing the ability to write letter to others all over the world. World Post Day started in 1969.
… and here I thought it would be about post-it notes.
National Pro-Life Cupcake Day
On this day, cupcakes are baked to honor the lives of those not yet born. The day also raises awareness about the issue of abortion. Cupcakes are a sweet way to get a conversation started on a difficult subject.
Organizers encourage baking cupcakes and giving them to friends, family and even strangers. While not everyone will agree, conversations may be started. Some may prefer not to participate at all, while others still will join in the conversation, even though they disagree.
Cupcakes for Life started this off the wall observance in 2012
National Moldy Cheese Day
Prepare yourself for some spectacular gastronomic delights when you celebrate Moldy Cheese Day. The origins of this intriguing festival are obscure, but what’s clear is that it’s a time to value and cherish moldy cheese in all its wonderful forms.
Tidy minded folk might wish to search their fridge for forgotten morsels of cheese which have now acquired interesting moldy growths, providing the basis for intriguing science projects, and perhaps prompting a through clean-up. Alternatively, why not take a look at the many varieties of cheese which have been purposely exposed to mold in order to give them a mouth-watering flavor and enticing appearance?
Moldy Cheese Day is a chance to take Stilton sandwiches to work or make cheese-on-toast with tasty Gorgonzola. Moldy Cheese Parties are popular option, where every guest should bring a cheesy dish to share and there is the opportunity to indulge in cheese themed party games.
I did manage to find a stray reference or two suggesting this is a "National" day. Hard to believe that the "Big Cheeses" in Washington would declare a national day for moldy cheese. Have you ever known our elected officials to waste time debating worthless topics? (Okay, forget I even asked that question.)
I don’t even care to know why Leif Erickson is celebrated twice on this day!

Become so all-fired important. I mean, I like Angel Food Cake,
But its own special day? And I Love Yam day? Popeye might
Like that one as he is always sayin, I yam what I yam.”
With that said, I’m only looking at two this time.
National Curves Day
National Curves Day is a global non-profit social that promotes self-love and confidence for the plus-size woman. And National Curves Day, Inc. has been mandated as an actual day of recognition in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Their main goal is to provide inspiration, uplift, and encourage women and men to love themselves and the skin they are in.
This is their 3rd annual Honors and Fashion Gala.
Now I have to tell you, this is just absolutely awesome!
National Costume Swap Day
Anyone ever hear of this before? I know I haven’t.
On the second Saturday in October, National Costume Swap Day encourages the pirates, princesses, dragons, and wizards to trade costumes.
No matter whether your costumes are store-bought, homemade, or patched together, stretch your costume collections. Friends, neighbors, offices, and playgroups gather to swap costumes just in time for Halloween. But the day isn’t designed just for trick-or-treaters. Theater groups prepping for the fall drama season also benefit from swapping costumes.
Not only is a costume swap a great way to save money, but it’s also an excellent opportunity to explore ideas for children of all ages. Dress up provides children a chance to use their imagination. Playing a role and pretending explores personality and the imaginary worlds they’ve only read about or seen on TV. When colorful costumes that fit their dreams suddenly appear before them, children’s eyes light up. And parents pocketbooks feel relieved.
When it comes to a budding theater troupe, costuming can be an arduous task. Depending on the requirements of the play, dressing the cast can almost be as difficult as dressing the stage. Area theater groups support one another in numerous ways. Costuming is just another way they help out.
Also, both approaches to costume swapping help the environment. Not only is it recycling at its best by reusing costumes, but it also keeps costumes out of the landfills.
GreenHalloween.org created this fanciful day in 2010.
(One thing I forgot to tell you all … there’s over 1500 of these off the cuff and not so known special days! So kinda consider this the calendar of events you might one day use if you get bored!)
