empty glasses and burnt wings
maybe we were like fire and ice,
your eyes of incandescent flames,
were sparkling as we roll the dice,
ready to play these star-crossed games.
I remember leaning over empty glasses,
my milky wings brushing your face,
you spoke fondly of damned masses,
and about how you loved the chase.
The very wings that gave me flight,
chained me to the clouds above,
so I long for the darkened night
and moments of illicit love.
I learned to love your lies,
more than I could withstand truth.
because somewhere in your eyes,
was promise in its youth.
I burnt my snow white wings to ash,
a raven emerging from a dove
obsidian wings flutter from the gash
and all in the name of love.
Darling we'll rule the worlds together,
mahogany thrones and dark halos
dark whiskey and tones of leather
because that's just how the game goes.
I know that you kneel for no one,
but I'll remember how you said,
"if life's a game, then I've won,
you give me life, even in the world of the dead.
the biggest sin I'll ever commit,
is changing the strings of fate,
and I'll never, even to myself, admit,
that I wish I made it to the pearl gate."
I take your hand and whisper,
"I don't mind being born from ashes,
as long as I find you time and time again,
feeling the heat from dwindling matches,
fate will remember us as the original conmen.
I'm a collision of darkness and light
and they'll always tell me I'm wrong.
Because you were always right -
I had a little hell in me all along."
Drowned out
My voice can’t be heard in this sea of people
Unless I’m saying something satirical
Something that makes people laugh and smile
Anything serious and it’s drowned out by other people being satirical and funny
Can you hear me?
Of course you can’t, I’m talking through a screen
You’re merrily creating a voice for me in my head
If you’re even reading this in the first place
It is nice though, I can type in a serious manner
I don’t have to be drowned out when I’m not even in this sea
I don’t have to be funny when nobody is there to laugh
I don’t have to be someone I’m not
Can you hear me now?
Am I manifesting as something relatable?
Because I know that I’m not the only one faking this laughter
I cause the laughter despite hating it, and I know there are others doing the same
I’m not alone in this sea
I just don’t have a voice to rise against it
So hi, nice to meet you
I can hear you, if you can hear me
We don’t need a voice to be heard, do we?
We just need to be the same, and we can understand each other’s feelings because they are our own
You and I are the same.
When an Angel and a Demon are in love… (Reposted from another challenge)
The Demon played the role of Devil’s Advocate.
The Angel played the role of savior, teacher, and healer.
The relationship: a beautiful disaster made neither in Heaven nor Hell.
They met as enemies on a battlefield. Both with the intention to save the world:
The Demon, who pledged to purge evil, led his armies as he had earned his horns in Hell.
The Angel, who pledged to save the world, brought peace as she had earned her wings in Heaven.
″Hell is full of good meanings, but heaven is full of good works.”
When she told him this, he fell in love.
One day the Angel fell in battle and could no longer fly.
The Demon offered her immortality on condition that she stay by his side forever.
Unable to leave the other’s side and return to Heaven or Hell:
They travel the world to this day bringing war and peace.
