without hard ship

there is no soft ship

without darkness

there is no light

without pain and challenge

there is no joy and triumph

hardship is a means

to an end that is beauty,

no matter how stormy

and hopeless

and agonizing

it all may feel

We have laid our claim to this place

Hunting to extinction

Deforestation

Industrialization

Spread like a cancer

Destroying everything

Yet in these places

We think now void

Grows new life

Defying logic

Discovering the extinct

Still lives in sheltered groves

Proving life will sustain

And survive

Long after the last human dies
