Don’t Be Like J.K. Rowling
Don't say, (as I often do) "I'll never be like her/him." It does not get you anywhere.
Heck, write about a dog that gets stuck in a tree trunk and cannot get out until some magical fairy does her magic thingy on him.
I do not know. Write about it, if it seems like it could turn out alright.
Never doubt yourself or your writing.
Your writing will only go uphill from here.
Writing
Write about what you know, what you've experienced.
You can't describe something you've never experienced. Having said that, if you are gifted with a vivid imagination then just write.
Write in the morning, afternoon and whenever the mood takes you, even if you wake at three in the morning with an idea - write it down.
Write the tastes and smells you know, write how the wind ruffles your hair, write about the taste of hot fresh coffee, anything, but write.
Jot down your moods, your dreams and your feelings, your loves and hates, your treasures and your moods. Discover the joy of writing and let it fill your whole body, your house and your life with the ecstasy of the written word.
Write for yourself
Write for yourself!
Who caaaares if the audience likes it. When I read my old stuff, I cringe at how hard I tried to dampen my opinions to please everyone. Just put 'em out there! No matter what, someone's not gonna agree with you. Whatever, they're lame-- their opinion doesn't matter in the long run! Make sure yours is heard in a more eloquent way than theirs!
