"'Friendship is defined by this and that,'" Sophia murmured. "That is all they say at that place. It's always different. 'Friendship is defined your words, if they are nice to that person, then they are your friend,' they say. Hmm, well, I think they should shut up. Friendship isn't defined by anything. It is a part of your heart that patiently waits until that person comes along, and then your heart gets attached and never lets go."
I nodded, and whispered back, "I think my heart may just be attached to your heart."
Sophia's intelligent brown eyes greet mine. "My heart is attached to yours also."
Friendship
True friendship is defined by a basic need for close companionship. It is a bond between a group of people that share their lives, their dreams and find comfort and solace in each other's company.
A person may have many friends and may take courage from their support, and in the fullness of time as is often the case, friends find that their lives can take different paths.
Friendships can be severed, but rarely without pain.
As your life winds its way along its path, it may follow that you come to view these friendships objectively and see them for what they were, stepping stones through your personal growth.
If you are fortunate you may find that as you mature in years, one friend remains who has stood by you through the pains and twists of your life, for such a stalwart would you not pay a ransom, knowing that whatever thorns you must deal with, they would never turn their back upon you?
If you have such a friend, then you are indeed blessed.
I am one such fortunate enough to have such a friend, and I can attest to the joy, the comfort and the peace we both share.
Friendship is defined by unspoken words and truths that cannot truly be defined.
Asking to write a story or even a poem defined by a theme such as the one stated is asking the impossible.
Asking what it feels like is even more indescribably difficult as one struggles for the words to connect the meanings to what we think might explain how we feel.
Friendship simply therefore is. Like breathing, walking, talking smiling, fumbling to grasp what we can't one moment to the next till it appears in full form.
