He came to me in a dream. His thin, long face was a pasty and pale white. His dark emerald eyes twinkled when I saw him, and his tall body clothed in a grey cloak stood up straighter too.
"There you are Lady Atala. I am so glad I found you. Reon is worried sick looking for you since you ran out of the Cordial Dinner," he bowed saying the words to me. Atala? What the holy fucking hell is going on here?
I said nothing in response, but I nodded, looking off into the trees I was by. He started to say something, but was interrupted by growling from the trees. Out of habit, my hand went straight to my nonexistent necklace. Without anytime to react great fiery red eyes came bounding at me and, and I woke up in a cold sweat. Looking around the room, my heart hammered in my chest, scared out of its wits, and wondering what is coming next. Once an hour had passed, I attempted to at least move out of bed. My flaming red hair was in tangles with its unpredictable bed head hair as normal, so as I rolled out of bed, my hair got caught on my pillow, and my nightstand, and my lamp.
"Auggh," my throat croaked out. I stood up, moving cautiously so I don't hurt my hair. I unhooked my hair from where they were stuck. I shuffled to the shower and took a quick one. Following that I threw my hair up in a ponytail and threw on a pair of jeans plus a shirt that had Deadpool holding a taco saying Chimichangas and tacos. That's gonna get a laugh by the bullies at school. Oh fuck well, my social security worker let me stay in this apartment that he owns but doesn't frequently use. What? I'm a damn orphan. People found me on the side of the road and nobody claimed me. And that's enough of my sob story.
I walked out to the small kitchen, pulling on mismatched socks and my black and white Converse. Out of the fridge came the milk and out of the cabinet came a bowl, spoon, and cereal. I poured the cereal and the milk into the bowl and shoved the food in my face. While eating, I glanced at the clock to see what time it was. The red electric numbers shone the time 5:52. Gotta get going, I had about a half a hour to get to the bus stop. I finished eating and washed the dishes, putting them away.
I scooped up my school bag and threw it on my back, throwing on my gray sweatshirt. I picked up my lunch off the counter and headed out the door, locking it behind me. I saw a guy about my age dressed in black step out of an apartment down the hallway. Instead of taking my normal route down the stairs, I followed him.
He walked to the elevator, probably not knowing it was broken. The guy stopped, his dark brown wavy hair was covering part of his face, and he was towering over me. He had to be 6'0 at least, probably shy, but popular wherever he came from. His jacket seemed to be brand new, as if it was the first time being worn. The same went for the shoes and pants. The guy seemed uncomfortable, as if he was new around here, which he probably was.
I don't think he has acknowledge the fact that I was standing there yet, because he turned to me and smiled.
"Well this makes things easier," he laughed, his deep voice in a whisper. Makes what easier?
"Who the hell are you?" I ask in return.
He smirked, "The name's Reon, but you can call me Re." The same Reon from my dream...? No, that's impossible, it was a dream. I turned and walked the other way.
"Oh come on! You really don't want to walk away! You're gonna get killed," he called to me. I froze in my tracks and turned around slowly, confusion in my eyes.
"Killed? What is this? A fucking joke?" I questioned him. "I have to get to school. Just because of you asshole, I'm going to be late." I ran to the stairwell, entered it, and hurried down the stairs. I checked the time on my phone, 6:25 am. God, I have 5 minutes to get the bus station that's a half a mile away. Time for me to sprint. Thanks a lot jerk. I exited the stairwell only to be met by a downpour of rain. Joyous. I started running for the closet bus stop, and by the time I got there, my things were thoroughly soaked. I get to air things out in my locker. Yay!
I stood there in the rain, freezing my ass off. I checked the time on my phone again 6:31 am. Ok, I thought to myself. The bus will be here any minute now. I stood there, waiting, when I realized the bus wasn't coming. Fuck. I have to walk to school and explain why I am late. I grumbled even more as I walked in the direction of my school a couple miles away.
After a few minutes of walking, I covered maybe a quarter of a mile. The rain had let up a little, but I was still soaked. Cars drove by me, and not one stopped to ask me if I needed a ride. If I desperately needed one, which I didn't, I could've contacted my social worker, who is very nice compared to some of the other ones I've met.
I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, and I ended up in a forest. The trees were high above me, shielding me from whatever rain that was coming down. I wandered some, before stopping in a clearing that was relatively dry and I sat down. Still holding my lunch, I was looking to see if any of it was still good, and a majority of it was. I was thinking about my predicament, when I heard footsteps come up from behind me, followed by slightly heavy breaths.
"You're a hard one to follow Gwyneth," he smiled at me. I never told you my name jerk.
"How do you know my name is Gwyneth? I never told you, so my name could be Madison or Hannah," I asked him intriguingly. Still, how does he know my name?
"Well I, uh, probably have some explaining to do, don't I?" he, or 'Reon,' says questionably. You don't say asshole?
I sigh, annoyed, and turn to him to get a better look, "No shit Sherlock." His tanned face scrunched up in an attempt to to stop laughing. What the hell is wrong with this guy?
"You just crack me up Gwyneth. Why don't you listen to what I say? I literally had to fight all those creeps that were following you, just because you ran away from me," Reon laughed, walking towards me.
"Creeps? There weren't creeps following me except for you bitch," I snapped back at him, pacing in the dry area. What. An. Idiot. I continued, "Who are you, and why are you following me?"
Reon regained his composure and smiled, "My name is Reon Kawenan, and I am from a world named Somnium. I am following you because you belong there with us." Us? He needs help, but by how he is standing, how his posture is, he seems to be telling the truth, or at least believing he is.
"Us? Who is us exactly?"
"We are the people of Somnium, the dream makers, the defenders of innocents, the mages, the," he paused. "Everything. We are a village, a town, a country, that lives in a magic world, hidden from everyone. We, um, we protect this world from the unknown. And we need you."
