Gobble.
I watched them prepare their table. Stuffing. Cranberry Sauce. Yams. The smell was good, but I knew they were missing something. It was me. They wanted to cut my neck off, rip my feathers off my skin, take my guts out, and out me in the oven. So I ran, and ran, and ran. Until I couldn’t run any longer.
Under the Barn
Theres this spot under the barn, she always used to take me there. That was before the humans took her to the zoo. At least that's what we like to tell ourselves when loved ones go missing. I heard them talking the same way they did before they took her last year. I had been stress eating ever since she was gone. I was worried about her. I knew I was the biggest Turk on the farm. That's why I hid.
I hid under the barn until snow came. I had survived another year. I hope you're proud of me darling.
Turkey Survival
I imagine I'm a turkey stationed in the wild being hunted by those who want my precious meat. In order to stay alive I know that I have to stick to the shadows and keep quiet. Unfortunately, I know that it's going to take more than my ninja skills to make it out of this holiday, I know that the hunters won't leave until they get what they came for. Although this idea may be harsh, I may have to sell out some of own turkey friends' hiding spots. It's the only way to ensure my own survival.
Hiding behind a tree I heard the first hunter arrive, making ridiculous sounds trying to get us turkeys to come out, but we all know better. However, this was the perfect opportunity to make my first move. I picked up a stone from the floor and threw into a nearby cave where I knew a lot of turkeys hide every year. It made a loud bang sound, and the hunter turned with a large grin on his face. He slowly shifted into the cage, and not long after came out with two innocent turkeys just trying to make it past Thanksgiving. Hey, I feel sorry for the guy, but it was either him or me, and I chose me.
Later, another hunter came looking for a meal. Thinking quickly I made the loudest noise I could make and ran as fast as I could straight into the bushes where 5 other turkeys were hiding. Then I dove into a nearby crater and watched as two more innocent turkeys were taken away to make some lucky families very happy. But hey, think about the bright side, at least I get to celebrate Thanksgiving with you, but on the dinner table of course!
