Basketball has been played throughout the world. It has been a main sport in the US and has come around since the 1890’s. The game was invented by, James Naismith, a Canadian gym teacher. Who made basketball, why, internationality, and how it became big are important facts you should know if you like basketball.

James Naismith created basketball. He was a graduate from Presbyterian college. After his college he kept on with his love with athletics and headed to Springfield college. A couple of college students were there be cause they needed to burn off the energy they had from their football season. The superintendent told Naismith, “ Go take the class and see what you can do with it.” He decided to make a game that was easy, complex, and interesting. Then it should include plenty of exercise, but not the rough kinds of sports like football and soccer. A lot of time went through his thinking. Then when he began he asked a janitor if he had any 18-inch square boxes to use as goals, but only came back with two peach baskets. After he nailed them upon the gymnasium balcony at each ones end. Someone was stationed at the end of the balcony to pick the ball up from basket then put it back in play. James Naismith took a lot of time to make this game like it is today. The origins of basketball are important because it is fun, easy to learn, and our county’s sport.

Basketball has been growing since it came out. In 1898 the National Basketball Association was invented. Then broke apart 5 years after it started. That break up led to a number of random leagues forming themselves in the 1900’s with very loose organizations. Then the NBA came back in 1949 and a lot of people started watching. When the NBA came back, around this era, it became big and kept building on throughout the years. Some players like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Bill Russell, were players who made people go to basketball games to watch their exciting plays and made basketball standout to the world. Then came some other players like Michael Jordan, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and Larry Bird, made basketball even more popular and set the NBA to a spectacular sport. In today’s basketball the advertisements, commercials, and shoe brands are different ways basketball has become big and shows the development from the beginning it was made.

When basketball was first made, it wasn’t a popular sport yet. It wasn’t a sport that was big and was not out of the US and wasn’t being played. Eventually, when basketball caught up with spectacular players to play in the NBA and was now different. Basketball was now talked over the world. During the years, basketball became international and was soon in the Olympics to compete. The USA “Dream Team”, held some of the finest players of the NBA and traveled to Barcelona to compete in the1992 Olympics. Also, the NBA started to draft good players in China, Spain, and France to come and play in the NBA. Another thing, the NBA honors some international holidays and regular holidays by using different jersey colors or shoes.
