I said goodbye.

Like an accordion, were we.

Out and in, back and forth.

We were a song

without a melody.

A cacophony of notes.

We were as sharp breaths

as the instrument expands

and contracts.

In and out of love.

I peeled myself away.

Away from wanting you.

Away from craving you.

Away from needing you.

Like a bandaid, was it.

The moment I turned from you

for the very last time.

I said goodbye.

Good-bye to the bruises.

Good-bye to the pain.

Good-bye to the control

you had over my heart,

pulling its strings like a

marionette.

The farewell was bitter

like vinegar.

You ripped my soul apart

one last time

when you said,

"I don't love you."

As time passed

and I loosened your grip

the farewell was sweet

like honey.
