Independence at its Essence
Just as one cannot truly understand the essence of good, without the knowledge of evil, nor the concept of light without that of darkness, independence cannot be understood without one's having comprehended its antithesis.
Independence is not being controlled by others. Independence is not being reliant on others for support. Independence is not feeling low, confined, or trapped.
Independence is autonomy. Independence is the status of one being his or her own distinct entity. Independence can be claimed when one can stand on his or her own feet, and have the ability to freely proclaim who they are.
Independence is our basic need. It is a right that we have fought for since the dawn of time, and we will never desist in our efforts to maintain our independence.
