Greenthumb
At the age of 23
I discovered I could grow a tree
A tree that grew with shocking speed
and all I needed was a seed.
My tree grew to it's tallest height
It grew that way just overnight
This magic nearly gave me fright
But then I thought, no way, that's tight!
So I tried the bulb of a pretty flower
It was mature in less than an hour
What was this new super power?
Would I lose it in the shower?
I bathed then went right back outside
and took my skateboard for a ride
Kicked my foot to make it glide
to a perfect lawn and then I tried
To make that lawn go overgrown
That neighbor thought the world they owned
and that they belonged on a throne
I made the grass grow, no seed sown.
My eyebrow shot up as I pondered
With this new magic I could wander
It wasn't something I wanted to squander
It may not even last much longer
I could do some wicked things!
'Have fun!' my little demon sings
But I told him what new power brings
'Responsibility' has familiar rings
I'm no Spidy that's for sure
Peter Parker was way more mature
Inflicting some karma came second nature
There was no sickness I could cure
So I did set about avenging a few
I turned some bright red roses blue
Set weeds upon a garden or two
But it wasn't long til I was through
I've always had a love for trees
and mourn deteriorating bees
I thought maybe I could put a freeze
to the rapidly dropping forestries.
So that is exactly what I did
As much as they chop you shouldn't kid
Our forests we'd have long been rid
If not for me, the Greenthumb Kid.
(Inspired by the character Queen Irene from Piers Anthony's Xanth novels and there's also a character in my book who has this power)
