Will you be my friend?
A soft rain hit my window to where I could barely hear it. It was a brisk winter morning in the middle of December and no snow had fallen yet. I hated mornings like this, not because of the rain or lack of snow it was because I had to go to the one place I dreaded the most, school. Funny thing is, I used to love school and have lots of friends but it all changed earlier this month, I was taking a short walk through my neighborhood when this lady fell off her porch and I started laughing. I really did feel bad for that lady, honestly. Turns out she was the wrong person to laugh at because later that day she came to my house with a plate of cookies. I thanked her and had all of the cookies before my brother had the chance to have any.
There must have been something bad in those cookies because about an hour later my back started to hurt and I got a massive headache. I didn’t know it at the time but let's just say I now have wings and horns. “Baylie time to go to school.” My mom opened my door and smiled sweetly. I sighed and got up off my bedroom floor. My mom was waiting for me in the car I really did not want to go, but I was forced to, day by day because my mom wanted me to get an education.
The drive to school was silent, mostly because I wasn’t in the mood for talking. We pulled up to the school and it was time for me to get out and face the day. I got out of the car and started walking when my mom yelled to me “Have a good day sweetheart” I turn back to her and wave before continuing on my way.
Inside the school, I got my occasional stairs from all sorts of different people. I tried to ignore it most of the time but it really made me sad to know that nobody wanted to be my friend just because I was different. I made my way to my locker, got the stuff I needed out of it and started walking towards my first class of the day. “Hey demon girl!” I turn around and see a girl about my size walking up to me. She had her 2 friends with her. “Your ugly did you know that?”
“W-What?” I say softly
“Are you deff? I said you're ugly.” her friends giggled. I could feel the warm tears starting to roll down my cheeks. “Omg are you crying?” she laughed loudly. I didn’t answer her, instead I just stood there. “Hey! I’m talking to you!” she snarled grabbing a fist full of my hair and jerking my head up. I gritted my teeth and refused to look her in the eyes. “You little bitch! No wonder nobody likes you, Slut!” she kicked me in the stomach and then went off laughing with her little friends.
I leaned against the wall behind me. My back slid down the wall until I was sitting on the ground with my knees to my chest. The tears became more frequent, until I was sobbing. “Why does everyone hate me!” I yelled through my choking sobs.
“I don’t hate you” I looked up to see a girl standing over me. “Why would people hate you?” she asked leaning down closer to me.
“I’m different and everyone hates me for it.” I sniffled and put my head back down.
“Just because you're different doesn’t mean you should be hated. In fact I like you the way you are and those horns are wicked cool.” She smiled and held her hand out in front of my face. I look up at her and smile back taking her hand. She pulled me up off the floor and onto my feet. “I’m Lindsay by the way. What's your name?”
“I’m Baylie”
“I can tell we are going to be great friends” Lindsay smiles.
“Me too.”
