Noose
Coil of shattered promises
grows tighter, as I regret
my failure to brave
the river between us.
Pain drips on the floor,
melting candle of anguish.
I move closer to where
he used to be but
he hovers beyond
my struggling reach.
I break in frozen pieces
like icicles in winter -
a cold wind gusts
upon my brow,
feeling chilled by
door left open,
leading to deep
drowning pool
of wet tears.
Following empty snowdrifts
of sprinkled regret
I never reach horizon -
a slow motion spinning
toward the dark night,
lying forlorn in my bed
covered in sheets
of sorrow, his scent
lingering on my skin.
