Crossing the Staten Island Ferry
Ferry me across this river
Navigate these waters that do not seem to slow
Cast off the lines that hold us to the foggy shore
Let's leave it all behind
We are spectators if just for a moment to the busy-ness that surrounds
The barge and its tow move in equal silence
Like us
Burdened and incapable of doing it alone
Lightening and Lady Liberty dance in the darkest moments before day's end
And you and I without word but with motion
Rise and find
That the fog has lifted and a new shore awaits
Lit up like the first light of a new day
