The House In The Woods
Chapter 6- The Phone Call
The next morning Rhonda was already up and giving the kids and Ted breakfast. Shortly after, Diane and Jack made their way downstairs and joined them. "Well, that was good, but now I've got to go onto work and make the bacon." said Ted as he kissed Rhonda goodbye. Scotty and Penny ran over to their grandfather and hugged him goodbye as well as Diane. Jack shook his hand and Ted went off to work.
"Well honey, I'm going to go on and call those people and see what they have to say. " "Ok sweetie, me and mom will be in here talking. "said Diane as she sat back down in her chair beside her mom. After about 25 minutes or so Jack came back inside with a big smile on his face. "I take it you have some good news to tell us with the looks of that grin on your face? " suggested Diane as she smiled back. "I believe he's gonna go for it honey! When I offered the $13,000 instead of asking price, he got quiet for a second and then said he'd do some thinking. But from the sounds of his voice I believe he'll go for it. " "Did you happen to ask why he's selling it so cheap? It just doesn't make any sense." asked Diane. Jack took a seat and said, "Well, he said that it belonged to his grandfather and it's been in the family for a long time passed down through generations. He can't afford to keep the place up anymore including the land, and just wants it gone so he doesn't have to deal with the headache." "Does no one else in the family want it?" asked Rhonda as she got up to get more coffee. "I asked him that and he told me everyone else in the family is either in another state or just doesn't want it." said Jack as his phone started ringing. "Wow that was fast! Answer it! " said Diane excitedly. Jack answered the phone and went outside again. "Oh my gosh mum I'm so excited!" "I know, me too!" Not more than five minutes later Jack came back inside and yelled happily with fists in the air above his head like he just won a gold-medal for coming in first place, "WE GOT IT!" Diane ran over and hugged him, "Oh my gosh I can't believe it!" "He wants us to come down now to take care of everything we need to like the paperwork and all that good stuff." "Mum, do you mind..." "No problem, I'll watch them," Rhonda interrupted smiling, "you two go take care of the paperwork and I'll see you when you get back home." Diane and Jack thanked her again and headed to town to do what they had to do for the buying process. Later that night around 8:00 pm or so, they came back home. "It's ours mum, it's really ours!" said Diane as she hugged her mom and dad. "Well congratulations," said Ted, "when can I start with the electrical stuff for you?" "As soon as you want to start!" Jack said smiling. "Now you know you're more than welcome to stay here until the place is fixed up and livable again." Rhonda said. "Thank you so much mum, we really appreciate it." The four of them sat around the table talking about plans for fixing up the place, and each of them throwing around ideas left and right.
The kids were already in bed sleeping from a busy day of helping their Nana outside in the garden and doing stuff around the house. It was now 12:45 am, and the four of them went onto bed excited about the good news they'd received so fast.
