Good Enough
You live in a world of broken locks and analog clocks
Where you don't have time to tell the time
Or the funds to fix the locks, so they stay
The paint on every wall is chipping
And the nest of birds outside your window won't stop chirping
Sometimes the refrigerator just stops working
And the faucet water has not been treated
And you hate that your landlord is called a landlord
Because he shouldn't be allowed to own anything
His lack of upkeep kept the kitchen sink useless
And every time you flip a light switch
The 10 minute wait for them to actually produce light
Gives you plenty of time to think about a different life
One where you come home from work and lock the door behind you
Paint chips don't fill your lungs and the refrigerator
keeps its promise of keeping the milk cold
And you wash away the day with water not meant for sewer drains
A life where your pay can get you something maybe just a little bit better
But you still come home every day and say, good enough
Even though it's not
