Challenge
Hey fellow Prosers! So my birthday is coming up and I am super excited! It's also got me thinking about age and how we all perceive it in different ways. So here's the challenge: write a poem about how we as a society view age or coming of age. Have fun and get writing! :)
Age Gap
The face in the mirror
Cannot possibly be
The face that I am wearing
That's not really me
A splash of water rinses
And the sink agrees
I'm not really seeing
What I think I see
As I ready up my razor
To shave my face clean
I'm heading out today
To take in the scene
Downtown's a bustle
With things to be seen
I've worn my good hat
I feel like a marquis
All the pretty women
Keep smiling at me
I'm strutting my stuff
My god I'm eighteen
I think I'll get some smokes
Maybe sit under a tree
Spend the day just dreaming
Of all that I could be
I head up to the counter
Tell them what I need
There's no hesitation
"Don't you want my ID"
The girl looks up and says
"Why you're like sixty-three"
