LEGO BATMAN! LEGO BATMAN! LEGO BATMAN!
I know what you're thinking. Harry Situation, it's just a kid's movie about Legos. Have you no shame? FUCK NO! This movie combines two of my favorite things: Legos and Batman!
What's the story? It's Legos and Batman! That's your story! Okay here's the real story: Batman (voiced again by Will Arnett) is considered Gotham's greatest hero, and Batman flaunts it in every way possible. However, it is revealed that it gets quite lonely being the city's protector. No friends or family, Batman lives in complete isolation, with the exception of his trusted butler Alfred (voiced by Ralph Fiennes). That all changes when the Joker (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) comes up with the ultimate plan to destroy Gotham City. Now Batman must learn to rely on others than just himself, like his new sidekick Robin (voiced by Michael Cera) and Commissioner Barbara Gordon (voiced by Rosario Dawson), and together they can save the city as a family.
The big positive this film has going is definitely its humor. If I'm laughing at the first five jokes before the title screen starts then you for a fact that this is going to be fucking awesome. God, I laughed so hard throughout the movie that it started hurting in the best way possible.
I also enjoyed the voice cast for this film. Will Arnett was fun as Batman again, reprising his role from the Lego Movie. This Batman is basically the most egotistical narcissist you can think of, and it fits well in this movie. I also liked Zach Galifianakis' take on the Joker. Poor guy just wants Batman to recognize him as his greatest enemy. In my opinion, I'd say he definitely reserved a spot on my top five favorite Joker portrayals. And I really enjoyed Ralph Fiennes as Alfred. I hope he gets to reprise that role in a future animated feature or in live action.
Easter egg galore! This movie had so many references and so many call backs to other Batman media that it made my fanboy heart explode, hence why the theater called an ambulance for me. And those easter eggs earned a good chuckle or two.
As much as there is plenty of humor thrown in this movie there's also plenty of heart too. I really felt for Batman when he was all alone. You really get the sense he's pushed everyone out of his life because he doesn't want to loose anyone. Loss is painful, and nobody understands that more than Batman.
I could seriously go on and on, but I don't want to deprive you from the experience. Seriously just go out and watch it! It is a blast. It'll be the most fun movie experience you'll have this year so far. I think this is was just as incredible as the Lego Movie, and I think this is quite possibly the best Batman film to date. Good luck trying to top this, Batfleck!
Positives: Negatives:
-Laugh out loud funny -None! Period!
-Voice cast
-Easter eggs
-Heartfelt moments
-Catchy music
-Legos & Batman! What's not to love?!
Everything is awesome! Final Grade: A+
