Interviewing Jennifer Stanley
I: interviewer J: Jennifer
I: "Hello, Mrs. Stanley, I see that you are here to work for us, explain who you are."
J: "I am Jennifer Stanley. My name means the world to millions of people just like me and my family. You see, what I'm best at doesn't get on the news interview, it gets frowned upon."
I: "Frowned upon?"
J: "Yes, you all give up on people like me. You don't want to see what I see or hear what I hear because you think that everything you do is best. You think that everything in this 'world' is best and it isn't. I am a speaker. I am a well known speaker to people who have suffered injustice. Yes, I am a protester. I am someone who stands in the middle of time square with a sign."
I: "That is who you are?"
J: "Yes, because when I came to America, I didn't have this name. I was Jing Ye Si."
I: "Your family is of Asian Descent?"
J: "Yes."
I: "We can not hire you, I'm sorry... I'm afraid this closes the interview."
J: "It is not fair! Our people worked in factories too! You put majority of us in camps! Your policeman mistreat us Asians because you think we can not talk! You don't think we are people who understand you! You think we are evil! We aren't! We want to wear suits and be in offices just like you! I learnt fluent English and how to talk and walk and be and stand just like you! It is hard being Asian in America! Please!"
The interviewer walks out with the clip board and brief case, closes the door behind him, leaving Jennifer in tears.
