The Beast Within
“I’m coming to get you,” the threatening voice chanted, beginning in a low whisper and escalating to a thunderous trumpeting which reduced her to quivering jelly to be spread on toast for breakfast of the ominous monster. She knew he was out there, waiting to break into the dark place where she was hovering in anguish.
“Tap, tap!” The pounding noises whirling around her circumscribed her thoughts and intensified her fears. “You will never be safe with me,” the biting voice blast continued, encompassing her mind and soul in an inferno of hate.
Flailing her arms against the swirling forces of evil failed to propel the incessant fury from her presence. “I hear your sinister voice and I won’t let you in,” she promised as she bolted all the doors. Soon she heard the sounds of windows being broken and noticed the glass littering the floor. Running to the kitchen to grab a honed knife, she cut her bare feet on slivers of glass imbedding them into the crusts of her trembling feet. A trail of blood marked her path of despair. Grabbing the razor sharp knife, she tornadoed around in circles trying to locate the entry point of the malevolent force so she could head it off at the pass. Slashing in all directions in a furor, she lost her footing and fell to the ground on the sharpened point of her defense, spearing herself in the heart.
Blood pooled around her as she gradually gave her essence to the beast which was huddling, waiting for her last flicker.
