North Star
I know
I shouldn't ask you to stay.
You lost your light
The principle star of your sky
And none other will ever shine
As bright.
However, if you must depart
You deserve to know
You are a luminary
In my world.
A constellation that has guided me through my darkest nights;
A daystar on my brightest days.
Your light in my world
Bore lesser stars that have filled
My sky.
If you leave there will be light
It just won't be as bright.
What world will this world become without you?
There has never been a world I've known without your existence.
Three decades of a life
Which you have always inhabited.
Now I am to lose you to the queen, Night
She promises you a bed of slumber beside your beloved.
I just beg for a few moments more before this bittersweet twilight
To adorn you in my love, my respect, and gratitude
As you fall from my sky
To your resting place
A bed in the palace of Night.
