Lonesome
There once was a girl. Her heart could outshine the sun, but nobody noticed. She was alone in this world, with no friends, an unstable father, nothing. She longed for a friend someone that understood her, someone that cared.
Years pass. Things only get worse. She is falling, and there is nobody to catch her. No longer does she smile. No longer does she want to live in this lonesome world.
Singing at the beach near her house she cries. She cries for her dead mother, for her nonexistent friends, and broken father. The rock she sits on is gray and cold, very unyielding, like the world around her. She sings softly.
The sun is setting. She stays sitting on the desolate beach, trying not to wallow in self-pity. A ripple forms in the water. A head appears.
The girl stands and walks over to the water's edge. A young man's head pops up. He speaks.
"You know you are too good for this world. Come with me and I will take you to paradise."
The shake your head. No, she will not leave her poor father. What will happen to him if she leaves. He already lost her mother, he does not deserve to loose her as well.
The man disappears. She feels lonely again. Her heart empty. She returns home to her father. Making dinner she sighs, looking around the apartment. Though it is small it feels empty to her. She takes the food to her father. They have learned to support one another.
He speaks to her gently, saying he needs to join her mother up above. She shakes her head no. But he continues, telling her where he hid a lot of money. Telling her she is old enough to make it on her own. Telling her she doesn't need him anymore. Telling her he is a waste of space.
She cries softly, but understands. They embrace each other. She says goodbye, takes the money, and leaves. Without hesitating she donates all of it to different charities. She heads to the beach. She is too afraid to go back home.
She begins to sing again. Speaking about how she is ready, ready to go to the paradise the man promised her. Nothing happens. There is no ripple, no sign of anything. Not crying anymore she begins to wade out.
The water reaches her chin. This is going to be hard because she knows how to swim. Focusing on nothing but hope she lets her head slide under. She lifts her feet from the floor and allows her body to sink. She does not struggle.
Opening her eyes she watches as she is dragged away from land. The underwater world flashes before her eyes it is beautiful. She sees a flash out of the corner of her eye. It is the same man who visited her.
He pulls her towards him and kisses her. She is no longer alone.
