Harry Situation Reviews: Avengers: Infinity War
Ten years in the making, all leading up to this defining moment.
Avengers: Infinity War is the newest Marvel superhero film that features all our favorite heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) coming together in one helluva crossover event. In this film, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Vision, and the Guardians of the Galaxy must join forces in combating the Mad Titan himself, Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), before he can claim all of the infinity stones for his Infinity Gauntlet, which will allow him to bend the universe to his will.
Ever since the first Avengers movie (and I’m not referring to Captain America: The First Avenger), every single Marvel film after that has been building up to this moment. Folks have asked me before what is my favorite MCU movie, and I’ve always given the same answer: it’s a tie between Captain America: Civil War and The Avengers. The reason why I list those two the highest is because they both managed to deliver everything I could have hoped for and more. I think, for the moment, this film reaches up to those ranks when it comes to placement because it delivered everything I hoped for and more.
I’m gonna start off the positives with the main antagonist, Thanos. Finally, Thanos, one of the greatest villains in Marvel Comics, serves as the main antagonist in this film, and he was no pushover. People complained for so long that Marvel hasn’t had any solid villains not since Loki. Now folks argue that Killmonger from Black Panther is the best Marvel villain (though to me, that’s debatable). Thanos, my god, Thanos is the best Marvel villain to date, and that’s frankly because all Marvel films since Avengers have been building up for this arrival. He’s intimidating, he’s powerful, and he’s relentless in his quest. Josh Brolin was perfect casting for the role. And what I loved best was they gave Thanos a good reason to be evil, not just making him evil for the sake of it. He does have a motivation, but it’s that motivation that will destroy half of the universe.
Like Brolin, all the cast members were great. I’m not gonna list them all off because there’s one too many. If you’ve seen every MCU movie up to this point, you already know who these characters are and how they act. They’re all spot on performances. Not a one misses a beat. But of course it was just so amazing to see all the characters come together and interact with each other. Many of them have some great jokes and one-liners to each other. I especially love how Iron Man and Dr. Strange butted heads in this movie. Made for good conflicts of ideologies between the two characters. Unfortunately, there was no Sherlock Holmes reference made at either actors. That was bit of a wasted opportunity.
The visual effects were outstanding in this movie, and they had to be. This is probably one of the most expensive Marvel films they had to make and it was worth every time and penny. I don’t think they’ll have any trouble earning back their millions this weekend and the following weekends.
One last thing to talk about was how dark this movie was. This was seriously a very dark Marvel movie, especially at one scene in particular. I cannot spoil what that is. All I can say is that my jaw is broken from hitting the floor so hard. I mean THAT scene... DAMN! That’s all I can say and I already feel like it spoils the movie. But... DAMN! I’ve never walked out of a film like that feeling all these different emotions after THAT scene happened. But I think it’s because of THAT scene is what will make this film stand out from all the other films.
Unfortunately, I need to keep this review short. I feel if I talk more about this movie, then I’ll end up spoiling it, and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. This is definitely a film you have to see for yourself, and it automatically gets a solid A+ from me. The only downside is that we’re all going to have to wait a whole year for the next one, and after THAT scene I’m not sure if my heart could take a whole year of waiting.
Positives:
-The Avengers
-Thanos
-Action-packed fun
-Ultimate team up
-Outstanding visual effects
-Dark
-THAT scene
Negatives:
-Waiting for the next Avengers movie
Final Grade: A+
Alright prosers, listen up! This is very important. If you have seen this movie already and feel like commenting in this review, please DO NOT SPOIL IT. If you want to talk spoilers, you can send me a personal message through my profile page. Other than that, don’t ruin it for everyone else who hasn’t seen it yet. If you post something that sounds like a spoiler in the comments, I will ask you to kindly delete that comment. This is a film a that everyone should see, and I don’t like it when an experience is ruined when someone spoils a major plot point or reveal.
So there’s my review of Avengers: Infinity War. Have you seen it by now? What were your thoughts? Please be kind, leave a like and comment, and remember, no spoilers!
