Adventures of A Superhero - Part 3
More Powers Realized and A Name
Anna, over the next few days tried out other thoughts and they all worked. First, she tried invisibility, and actually left her place and walked to the city park and no one noticed her because they couldn’t see her. She knew this because at a park bench, a sandwich bag was pushed off by a man sitting there, and she went over, picked it back up and set it down again. The man, not aware at first, glanced over and saw it back on the bench. Looking around, he scratched his head not believing what he was seeing. What he couldn’t see was Anna standing two feet from him.
Another time, she tried her sight vision. Concentrating all she could, she fixed her mind to another part of the city at one of her favorite restaurants, and after a few minutes, she was able to not just focus but zoom in, taking into everything happening. An older couple having soup and sandwiches, a single girl eating a cheeseburger with fried onions, a man having a hot ham sandwich, and another couple having shrimp for lunch.
But one of the newest things she tried happened by accident. Coming back from her travels, she went to unlock her door in a hurry. Too much of a hurry. With key in hand she went to put the key in the lock and her entire hand, key included went right through the door. There she stood with half her arm missing had anyone passed by. Looking around and seeing no one, she stepped right into and through the door and there she stood in the foyer. She couldn’t help but laugh over this discovery.
Yet, a few things concerned her. One, what should she call herself, and second, she couldn’t tell anyone about her new-found powers. Another thing was, what if she was on a date or with her best friend Alexis and an emergency came up needing her help. How would, could, she explain her sudden need to go?
“Oh, sorry Alexis, I have to fly to Switzerland. There’s an avalanche happening, and I need to stop it right away! I’ll be back later.”
Nope. That wouldn’t work. Besides, Alexis is a blabbermouth.
’Steve, dinner was wonderful, but I have to get out of these clothes right now. I have bank robbers to catch.”
“But, but … we haven’t even ordered yet?”
“I know, but I also know dinner would have been great. Bye!”
That’s another nope.
Axion? No, he can't help. He's out there somewhere doing the super power giveaway. Just like a guy, never around when you need one.
But what should her superhero name be?
**********
She fell asleep on the couch overthinking her new name.
Two hours later, Anna awoke, stretched her body and slowly got off the couch and went to the kitchen to make something to eat. Not more then five minutes passed when her sensitive hearing picked this up.
“I’m taking Josh with me Martin and we’re leaving you.”
“Like hell you are. Over my dead body. I’ll see you dead first!”
“Martin, please, don’t make this any worse than it has been. I have tried so hard to be a good wife to you, but you make it harder on me by your drinking, staying out all hours of the night, and I know you’ve been seeing that tramp at the strip club. At least I never cheated or lied to you, but you can’t stop doing either of those things!”
“So what if I have, you’re still my wife and you’re gonna stay my wife. Just stay put and quit bitchin so damn much. And where the hell is dinner anyway?”
“Martin, what are you doing. OH, GOD, NO! Martin, please, put the gun down!”
That was all it took for Anna. In two seconds she was out of her outer layer of clothing and stood in her costume, and with a furious rage building inside her, her outfit became a harrowing red. Without thought, she ran through the front door leaving it intact of course and sped to where this confrontation was taking place. In twelve seconds she had gone fifty-six city blocks, up two flights of steps and walked through their front door.
“Martin, do as she says and put the gun down. You don’t want to hurt her.”
All eyes, including five-year-old Josh were trained on Anna.
“Huh? What? Where the hell did you come from and how’d you get in here?”
“The how and why isn’t important, Martin. What is important is that you put the gun down right now before someone is hurt.”
“Only one getting hurt is you. You have one second to get the hell out of my place.”
Anna smiled.
“Okay, Martin. I asked nicely. Now, I’m done asking.”
Before anyone could blink an eye, Anna moved with such incalculable speed and that quickly the gun was in her grasp and at the same time she had managed to tie Martin to a chair with a rope that had been attached to a utility belt she was wearing.
“There, that should hold you for a while.”
Looking at the woman, she said, “If you still want to leave him, then do so quickly, but first, make a formal complaint to the police. They may arrest him for threatening to kill you and possibly your son.” She looked over at him and smiled.
The woman spoke.
“Who are you? I mean, thank you for helping us, but who are you? How did you get in here to begin with?”
“Who I am isn’t really important. What is though, is your safety and the safety of your son.”
“Mommy. I like her. She’s nice girl. Nice girl change her clothes.”
Anna looked at her outfit and it had changed from the deep red to a medium sky blue. She looked at the woman. “Don’t ask because I don’t want to tell.”
Anna turned to leave to go back to her place when she stopped for a second and reminded the woman to call the police and then she was gone.
Back home, she had questions still. How does she present herself when saving lives? What should she call herself. Josh said, nice girl, but that would never do. Change Girl was kind of cool. Then as if by magic, it came to her, Multiply Woman. Why not? She can take on any appearance, change her skin color if need be, hair color and eyes, height and weight, run faster than the speed of sound, fly faster than jets, stronger than a thousand men, hear conversations at great distances, can view anything anywhere on the planet, and can walk through walls.
She stood to see if her thought would prove correct. Closing her eyes she concentrated on one thing. Ten seconds passed, then thirty, then a minute. Then it happened.
If you were to have walked in just then, you would think Anna had a twin sister, right down to the fine locks of her brown hair. But the twin was a duplicate of herself.
Anna thought it out and it came to be. Now Anna could be in two places at the same time, or maybe even more places than that.
The name she thought of was, Multiple Woman.
It was settled.
